Automated recalls for staff and PG

Library IT has been developing a system for automated recalls which will affect most borrowers from Monday. As this is complicated, we are starting a live trial of automated recalls from today running under the existing borrowing rules for staff and postgraduate borrowers with a 7 day recall period so we can identify any issues before the new practices are extended to undergraduates. On Monday we will modify the program to reflect the changes to Horizon guaranteed loan and recall periods as decided by BLT, more about this later.

The features of automated recalls include:
– Applies to standard loans only (not special collections or restricted loans)
– Priority for Restricted Loan staff accounts, no matter where their request is in the queue
– Txt message notification
– No recalls from Distance Students

Lending staff should continue to monitor the “Requests on long-term loans” report and manually recall any items that appear on these reports.

Cheers, Anne

Barcode login not working in catalogue

Since the upgrade the barcode/pin# login to the catalogue has not worked. We have 603 users in Horizon who can only log on via barcode because they have no IT Account, of these 440 have borrowed during the last year. The people affected are mostly ULANZ, xa or retired staff. SirsiDynix in the US are working on a bug fix for this and hope to have something available for us toward the end of the week.

Cheers, Anne

Horizon upgrade

Keep reporting issues to Library IT, everything should now be fixed except for the following

Barcode login in the catalogue not working – This is a bug in 3.20 that we unfortunately did not find during testing. It has been reported to SirsiDynix in the US and may take some time to fix.

Letters to recommenders and letters to lecturers – Margaret working on.

Tuning and memory issues – will continue to work on over the next week

We will upgrading the Sybase clients on our other servers this afternoon at 2pm. Reports may stop working for awhile during this upgrade.

Cheers Anne

Payment Plus for Staff

Payment Plus does not work for those staff who have multiple CSGold accounts attached to their Canterbury Card. We are having ongoing conversations with ICTS to try to get this fixed but for a number of reasons ICTS will not fix this in the short term.

Most staff members do not know if they have multiple accounts. If a staff member wants to pay for something personally, try to charge it through Payment Plus. In most cases it will work, however if they have multiple accounts, while the form will display a balance from one of their accounts when you process the payment there will be an error as the programme cannot determine which account to charge. The staff member will not have been charged. The only option for them is to get a casual card if they want to pay for something. Tell them the Library is sorry but this is an ICTS problem.

Cheers, Anne

Outstanding issues from Horizon upgrade

Keep reporting issues to Library IT, everything should now be fixed except for the following

– barcode login in the catalogue not working – reported to SD
– Selfchecks not working – reported to SD
– Letters to recommenders and letters to lecturers – Margaret working on
– tuning and memory issues – will continue to work on over the next week

Thanks
Anne

Summon progress

I have just heard from Serials Solutions that Summon has been delayed a bit. We are now expecting access late next week. We have sent them our catalogue records and the methods to harvest Digital Library and UC Research Repository but we expect that only the catalogue will be available in the first release. Cheers, Anne

Horizon upgrade complete

The Horizon upgrade is complete and everyone can now use Horizon and the catalogue. There are some outstanding issues.

– Notices have not been sent out yet today – Margaret is working on the problem
– Serials claims not working
– If you have problems with requests in Horizon, restart Horizon
– Receipt printer problems – contact Libary IT if you have problems
– Selfcheck is not working
– Banner in catalogue not showing

Horizon will be going down briefly at 5.05pm so please logout promptly.

Keep reading the comments on this blog

Thanks Anne

Horizon upgrade 12-13 Jan

We intend to upgrade Horizon over 12-13 Jan. This is a big upgrade so it will take awhile before everything is running smoothly. Please avoid running large reports Tuesday-Wednesday

Sunday 10 Jan – Horizon down 7pm-11pm for database checking
Monday 11 Jan – Library IT will be cleaning up unused collection codes etc.
Tuesday 12 Jan
4.00pm – All Horizon staff users except Lending Desks to log out. No reports to be run after this time
5.05pm – Everyone out of Horizon, the catalogue will be available after an hour but it will be slower than usual
After 9.00pm – Horizon will be down for 3 hours to run database checking
Wed 13 Jan
Horizon and the catalogue unavailable from 7.00am-11.30am. HIP (catalogue) will be upgraded while the custom views in Horizon are being fixed and staff test the Horizon upgrade. Library IT will run dayend.

Apart from Lending, Library staff should expect to have no access to Horizon from 4.00pm Tuesday to noon on Wednesday, and access for the remainder of Wednesday may be slow.

For users this will affect the catalogue, parts of the Library website that are dynamically created from Horizon and some Library applications such as interloans. While the catalogue will be available for large chunks of this upgrade, it will be going up and down without warning and when up will be slower than normal.

As we are upgrading Horizon, Sybase, HIP and Java, we need to do this upgrade when Library, SirsiDynix and ICTS staff are available so we will not be able to do it in the weekend as usual.

There is not a lot of immediate benefit in this upgrade but it does put us on the latest Sybase and Java versions which provided administrative and security benefits as the current version of Sybase is no longer supported.
