After Hours Medical advice, and pharmacies

Jude Kirk (Practice Manager, UC Health Centre) confirmed that it is possible to obtain medical advice during Extended Hours – for International students, and students who are enrolled with the Health Centre. The contact information for a trained health professional at the Health Centre is 364 2402, or 6402 from a campus phone.

For students not enrolled at the Health Centre the recommendation is that they contact their own GP who will have other support information on their answerphone.

Enquiries for help can also be directed to:
•Riccarton Clinic : 4 Yaldhurst Road (Church Cnr) – open every day until 8pm. Their pharmacy is open daily until 8:30pm.
Phone: 03- 343 3661
•24 Hour Surgery : Cnr Bealey Avenue and Colombo Street, Christchurch 8014.
Phone: 03-365 7777
•Urgent Pharmacy : 931 Colombo St – Open daily until11pm.
Phone: 03-366 4439.

I have also noticed on the Health Centre’s webpage (http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/healthcentre/ ) that they have extended hours during Exams: Open until 5:30 or 6pm; and Saturdays 8:30am – 6pm

Please note that out there ‘somewhere’ is information that the UC Pharmacy is open until 11pm – this is not correct!

Notices review

Over the next few months Sandra and Carolyn McMahon will be testing the sequence and content of library notifications sent to borrowers. It is highly likely that you may find some odd entries on the various reports that we run e.g. expired and cancelled holds, 21 days overdue, etc. Should you see any item linked to borrower names of the pattern ‘Borrower, One’; ‘Borrower, Two’ and so on, please ignore these. However, if you are in doubt about anything please ask Sandra or Carolyn.

Subscription Membership – impending changes

The Library management team has reviewed Subscription Membership to the University of Canterbury Library, and the following changes will come into effect on 1 July 2014.
• Users will be able to subscribe to the UC Library for either 6 or 12 months. The option of a membership of 1-5 months will no longer be offered.
• The new UC Subscription Fee structure will be: 6 months = $100, and 12 months = $180.
• The total number of items issued will increase from 10 to 25, including journals.

While the background technical changes are being completed access to Payment Plus may be affected on the afternoon of Monday 30th June and/or the morning of Tuesday 1 July. External Library Membership applications that include a subscription or card payment should not be processed during that period.

IT workroom assistance: Extended Hours, Central Library

“A workroom assistant will be on duty for additional shifts in the level 2 office on Friday 18th and 25th October until 9pm (rather than 6pm). Nathan and Greg will post signage to reflect this.

We would also like to let you know that the workroom assistants finish working for us on Sunday 27th October. After this date we will offer a service from the level 2 office during normal business hours.”

More on ULANZ membership….email addresses

ULANZ borrowers are still expected provide their email address at the home institution. There are only two exceptions, that of Australian Universities, (for the time being), and Massey.

The following information for students was extracted from each institution’s website during August 2013, but comes with a disclaimer – that it but may be subject to change at any time!

AUT: username@aut.ac.nz e.g. abc1234@aut.ac.nz
CPIT: username@student.cpit.ac.nz
Lincoln: FirstName.LastNameNumber@lincolnuni.ac.nz
Otago: username@student.otago.ac.nz
Waikato: username@students.waikato.ac.nz (Note the plural – ‘students’)
Victoria: username@myvuw.ac.nz

Both Massey and Australian University students are able to use a non-conforming email address. There is no longer a need to add .ac.nz for the address to be accepted when the online form is submitted.
