This week the ‘New books’ display in the Central Library will be processed on Friday 16th, (instead of Thursday 15th), and from then on until we close on Thursday 22nd all new books arriving in the hampers will be checked in so that they will be available to borrow over the break.
Thank you, Sandra

EPS Casio Scientific Calculator
We have brought over an EPS Calculator, normally kept behind the Lending Desk in the EPS Library, to the Central Library for student use.
The calculator will be kept in the cupboard behind the Central Library Information Desk, and can be issued for 1 day loan. The item is barcoded but not ‘tagged’.
Thanks,
Sandra
Extended Hours (Sunday 30 October – Wednesday 2 November)
Joan, Coral, Sandra and Fiona will all be away at the LIANZA conference early next week. Sandra and Fiona will not be back at work until Thursday 3rd November.
Extended Hours cover by the Casual team can be arranged through Tim O’Sullivan during the day, and for last minute emergency cover please contact the Central Library team on extension 6198.
Isabel has agreed to have her mobile phone number added to the Extended Hours phone list, in case it is required. Isabel says she will carry her phone with her but would prefer a ‘text’ message rather than a phone call.
Thank you, Sandra
‘Circ Assist’ – at front desk PCs
Peter K has been investigating the problem reported by all campus libraries this morning – that items cannot be issued/returned; the Circ Assist icon stalls on “Items queued’; and all attempts to work around the problem have not been successful.
Unfortunately Peter is not able to provide a ‘fix’ for us and has logged an urgent request for assistance from FE.
As many of you have already discovered items can be processed via Horizon if necessary, but they will still be secure/insecure, however the Self Loan machines are working so students can still have items issued that way.
Thanks,
Sandra
Library IT representative – After Hours
We now have an Extended Hours contact number (Extn 4060) for the phone in the IT Alcove Office on Level 2, Central Library. However, it is preferable that students and staff continue to direct general enquiries through Extn 6060.

Room bookings – Central Library
Although we have regained access to the floors in the tower, that were closed off while the incident was under investigation, we have not been able to restore the facility to book rooms online. This will be attended to on Monday.
Thank you,
Sandra
New Zealand time series database
We seem to be having difficulty accessing the New Zealand time series database
The error message says “…dx licence has expired…”. I have sent an email about this to Library E-Services and Library Support Services.

IT Services – more useful information
Additional points from Averill….
“…staff at College of Education Library may find it useful to know that we have a workroom assistant housed in the Kotuku office, weekdays from noon until 2pm.
Other computer workrooms open at present on the main campus are:
Erskine building – all computer workrooms including those rooms managed by math/stats on level 0, Erskine are open 24/7. This would be the best place for students to go to when Central Library closes.
Kirkwood village KC03 will be open 24/7 from tomorrow, Thursday, with 36 PC’s. KB04 opens on Monday, with dual boot, mac & PC computers, and open 24/7.
Kotuku at College of Education is open 24/7 so is the ideal place for students to go to when the Library closes there.
The 24/7 workrooms require card access outside of the normal working day.
Many thanks
Averill”
IT Services
Posting made on behalf of Averill Duncan (ICTS):
“The Loft staff have now a home on level 2, Central Library. Room 212 just behind the disability computers in the Alcove.
The regular workroom staff are Nathan Wain and Kathryn Hearsum. They will attend to second/third level IT support issues.
During the day this office will be manned from 8:30am until 5pm. During the teaching weeks of the year there will be a workroom assistant on duty until 9pm Mondays to Thursdays and until 6pm on Fridays.
Saturday and Sundays from 1pm until 4pm.
There will be times when the workroom assistants will need to leave the Library to attend to unexpected problems in one of our 24/7 workrooms but they should not be away for long.
The workroom assistant will check the level 2 and level 3 printers and of course all IT related problems can be directed to them whilst they are on duty.”
Adding Block notes to a borrower record
Please add your initials, or IT username, to any message added to a borrower’s library record. It really helps to be able to contact the staff member who added the note if a little more clarification is required.
