The Worksafe “You can sense it, you can stop it” initiative is about acting when you sense some sort of danger and keeping your teammates safe. You may have seen those meerkats in a warehouse on the TV ads, well we have Meerkats in MB too- and Meerkat certificates and even a Meerkat badge.
The MB Library got to run this programme because our indefatigable H&S rep. Swee Hoon got the “Limited Edition” of the Meerkat campaign materials from the UC H&S team when seeking new posters for our MB H&S board. Although she tried to source more for the rest of the library, it turned out this was all that was available so MB has been the only lucky team to roll out the promotion.
October’s Meercat was Laura who identified and acted upon hazards in the warehouse. Laura was also the first team member to proudly wear the meercat badge! Check out Laura receiving the award, on the K drive “K:\Operations\Marketing\Photos\Meerkat-MB-2021.jpg”
We have a pile of older North Island maps to give away. These are mostly the NZMS260 series but also some NI town maps. Potential re-purposing includes as wrapping paper, small bags etc. If you’d like any, let me know or head over to MB to look at them fairly soon.
The pathway to MB will be closed off for most of next Monday to allow scaffolders to safely bring in their scaffold poles. They will be able to let people through if they need to use the lift but ideally we need as little use of the path as possible. If you plan to visit MB on Monday, could you come in via the back entrance to Aotahi and across the air bridge or phone ahead and we’ll let you in a back entrance.
Kia ora koutou. The Macmillan Brown Library collects election ephemera so if you come across any election/political party brochures, flyers, posters etc that you can bear parting with, please pop it in an envelope and send it to us. Ngā mihi, Caroline

Following on from our presentation on the Pasifika Strategy last week, we have put a document in the K drive file://K:/LIBR-Library/Management/Planning/UC-Pasifika-Strategy/Proposed-Initial-Library-Actions-2019.docx outlining some of the initial work we are hoping to get going soon. If you’d like to be involved, please put your name against an action you’re interested in or contact one of us and we’ll get things moving. Thanks to everyone who’s been involved in these activities in the past, we’re looking forward to you being involved again!
We are delighted to announce that Matt Oram is the successful candidate for the Macmillan Brown Library LA role. As many, if not most, of you will know Matt is currently in a fixed term role at Central Library. He will begin at MB next Monday, 17th September.
In addition to his Central Library work, Matt has worked with the De Jong and the Pacific Leprosy Foundation collections, and has significant research experience in a range of archive collections internationally.
We very much look forward to Matt joining the team.
I’m sad to announce that we have accepted Rebecca’s resignation from the MB team but delighted to share that she is returning to CCL to take up a role as a part-time Library Archivist in the new Tūranga Library. We will miss her from the team but hope she has a blast in her new role. Rebecca’s last day will be the 20th July.
