With Rā’s permission, while we are working remotely, I am going to try running some daily exercise breaks for us all via AskLIVE. During the day, I will post a link to a music track on AskLIVE together with a link to the HabitatWork exercises which you can work through by clicking on each exercise on the left of the page. Please take care not to do anything that might hurt you, particularly if you have an existing health condition. You may wish to have a look at the exercises in advance if you are not familiar with them.
So that we can have a variety of music, I’m taking requests for the music tracks. Please just email me a link to the track that you would like to hear.
In case you missed it, the Copy Centre’s hours have changed. It is now open from 10am – 2pm, Monday to Friday. The Copy Centre is located with UC Print, beside K1 Lecture Theatre, Kirkwood Avenue.
The Subject Librarians, and Anne, Lyndsay, Helen and some others will be in a meeting in Room 210 from 10–11am this morning, in case you wonder where they are.
Many of us will be in a PD session in Poutama from 9.30am until 1pm today. So if you are looking for Anne, Lyndsay, Sara, or one of the Subject Librarians, please be aware that most of us will be in the PD session.
As Lyndsay mentioned in her post on 6 September, our trial Makerspace opened on Monday 9 September. It is open Monday to Friday from 2-5pm and the trial will run until Thursday 14 November.
We are gradually adding resources to the Makerspace. If you want to know what is there already, check out the inventory at K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Makerspace\2019-Makerspace\Makerspace-inventory, but also feel free to come and browse when the Makerspace is open.
Volunteers are still needed for the Makerspace shifts. It’s not an onerous task and you don’t need any special expertise. All you need to do is:
Check with your manager that it’s OK for you to volunteer for specific shifts
Put you name on the roster at K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Makerspace\2019-Makerspace\Roster-September. (Rosters will be created for October and November as well)
Be a friendly, approachable presence
Ensure that at least one staff member remains in the Makerspace at all times and make sure that no resources leave the Makerspace without your authorisation
Encourage visitors to write their feedback on the easel near the door
Use the spreadsheet at K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Makerspace\2019-Makerspace\Makerspace-statistics-September to keep a note of the number of visitors to the Makerspace during your shift, and to write any comments. You can use the PC in Room 214L, but remember to log out as soon as you have updated the spreadsheet. (Spreadsheets will be created for October and November)
For the 1:45pm shift, collect Key no. 33 from the key press in the level 2 Customer Services workroom and open the doors – prop them open with the chocks that are inside the doors to the left. Turn on the lights in the Makerspace and in the rooms on the right
If you are on the last shift for the day, ensure electrical equipment is switched off, turn out all the lights, close any windows, lock the main entrance to the Makerspace and return the key to the key press.
I wondered who the Engineering Librarian was who signed the fines letter in yesterday’s UC Library Instagram post, so I looked them up and here’s what I found.
The Academic Skills Centre, and Library Term 2 workshops and seminars programme for students has been released. The flyer will be made available in print in the Libraries, and at various other points on campus, as usual. Here is a link to more detail about the Academic Skills Centre part of the programme. We will be publicising the Library programme via our various social media and other marketing channels, but please take the opportunity to promote the programme to students when it’s relevant to do so.
The Central Library now has two basketballs for loan. Borrow one from the Information Desk using your Canterbury Card. They’re a great way to get some exercise during your breaks!
