Datasets Meeting 21 August 2009
The minutes of the latest meeting are now available.
Vicki
The rapidly spiralling costs of our Serials budget and the prevailing economic climate have prompted a review of our current subscription titles. We hope to make some savings leading into 2010, and have asked all departments to review their subscribed titles. Below is a link to the list of titles which have been suggested for cancellation for 2010. This list will be available for comment and feedback until July 17th at 5pm.
If there are any titles for which you wish to make a case for retention please contact Vicki Clark (Collections Librarian (Serials))
All titles in the list are linked to the Library catalogue if you wish to see full details.
We have had complaints about the currency of issues of the NY Review of Books on the Newspaper Stand. The latest issue on the stand is March 26-April 8th. There have been 5 issues since then, but no sign of them. Can Library staff please check their work areas for these missing issues? Has anyone noticed them round anywhere?
Thanks
Vicki
There is a problem with access to ALL our ASCE journals at present. It looks like ASCE haven’t processed our subscription renewal for 2009 as yet, even though we paid in October! They have been contacted and we hope to resolve this soon. Apologies for the inconvenience.
The problem with full text access to the ACS journals has been resolved, and you should now be able to access full text content.
There is a widespread problem with full text access at the moment with the ACS journals. We will keep you informed on any progress towards resolving this issue.

The Datasets Group met today to discuss the E-CAST service and its implications for the Library. Notes from the meeting which included Peter Kennedy, Dave Clemens and Heather Jenks can be found at

Journal Surf is now available.
Over the last few months we have been trialling a number of different platforms for some of our e-resources – namely OVID and EBSCO. As a result of these trials it has been decided by the Datasets Group that we will move PsycInfo, PsycArticles and RILM Abstracts for Music Literature from CSA to the EBSCOHOST platform for 2009. Thank you for taking the time to try the alternatives and for the helpful feedback you provided. Financial constraints have meant that we were limited in the number of changes we could make at this time. However your comments have been noted and we will bear these in mind for any future changes. I will shortly be able to confirm our other new products scheduled for 2009.
