Omeka S – Digital Voyages site now live

As many of you may have heard the Library has implemented the Omeka S platform for the creation of online resources. This platform is intended to be available not only for Library projects but for all UC staff and students.

From the ‘homepage’ instructions are provided for the creation of a site. The homepage shows past digital sites, which we are hoping to ‘re-create’ in Omeka S in the future, it also highlights our first site created in Omeka S, the University of Canterbury Library Provenance project. This project is very much a work in progress and all feedback is welcome to Damian.

Other projects in the pipeline are Terri Elder’s, Canterbury College Heritage Collection project. Barbara Garrie’s, Artists’ Books project, and another one from Damian on the Lubeck Bible.

If any students or staff are interested in the creation of an online resource please do direct them to the homepage to make a request to Library Digital Services who manage the site.

Cheers Damian

William Smith 1815 map on display

All staff are welcome to pop into Rm210 to see the display of the William Smith ‘Map that changed the world’  on 23rd and 24th November, in Rm210.

The map is on display as part of the Geosciences Conference 2020 being held at UC. Attendees of the conference have been advised they can view that map at any stage, but there is a specific time on the conference programme that it is for attendees only as we will be giving a talk (12.30-1.30pm Monday 23rd). So you are all welcome to view it at any time apart from that hour slot.

Ngā mihi

Access to library warehouse collections

I need to apologise for being so keen to go on annual leave last week that I neglected to inform everyone that we are unable to access the collections in the library warehouse.

We are unsure of how long the construction work will be taking place, but hopefully it will not be too much longer.

A temporary block has been placed on the items so that they cannot be requested.

Cheers Damian
