EPS Re-Start Progress

Levels 1, 2 and the Level 3 Silent Zone in EPS are now available as study spaces. Any re-shelved books in these areas are also available to borrow or browse (essentially QA 76.9 – end, QB 1 – 699, QC 320 – end, QD, SD, T, TA-TG). The Level 3 mezzanine area is not accessible as yet. Some books from this area are retrievable, i.e. TK 145 – end TK and TN. Student computers on Levels 2 and 3 are not in use as yet, pending assessment and cleaning.

Shuffling books in EPS

Today we are temporarily shuffling books on the mezzanine level of EPS, to allow contractors to dismantle damaged shelving and erect replacement shelving. The books will need to be moved back again once new shelves are in place. This is dirty, demoralising work, but if there is anyone out there who would like to lend us a hand, we’d be really glad to see you. Anytime. Really.
Thanks

Retrievals from EPS

Hi all
EPS is now able to offer retrievals from specific areas of the collection. These are:
QD (Chemistry), SD (Forestry), T, TA-TG (General Civil Engineering, Bridge and Roof Engineering, Roading and Pavement Engineering (Note: Not Building or Fire Engineering). We will retrieve items 3 times per day – 9am, 11am and 3pm. Thanks to Donna for updating details on PAC and on the UC Re-Start page.

Earthquake Impact – EPS

Hi all
If you’d like to see what the recently refurbished EPS LIbrary looks like at the moment, I’ve put some images in K:\buildings_equipment\Earthquake2010\Earthquake_Images_EPS. Contractors have made good progress on replacing ceiling tiles and the glaziers (or, as they prefer to be known, “Transparent Wall Technicians”!) have replaced at least five large window panes on the south side of the building. More windows need to be replaced on the north side and obviously we have a huge job ahead (as in Central) to re-stock shelves once the shelves are checked and ok. Disturbingly, one of the friendly contractors told me today that they’d “tried to re-classify the books as they went ….. by size”!!!! AAaaarrghghghgh!

Farewell morning tea for Adam

EPS will be holding a farewell morning tea for Adam on Friday morning, at approximately 10am. Please feel free to drop in and join us if you can (perhaps bring a plate…. and a mug/cup….) If you can’t make it at that time but would like to wish Adam bon voyage, you’re welcome to call in at any time during the day on Friday.
Thanks,
Dawn

Congratulations and farewell to Adam

I’d like to let you all know that I accepted Adam’s resignation yesterday as he has been offered, and has accepted, the position of Engineering and Digital Services Librarian located in the Texas A & M University engineering campus in the State of Qatar. His final day with us will be Friday, 6 August. While all of us in EPS are very sad to lose Adam, we quite understand his decision to leave UC at this time and wish him all the very best in this exciting career move. And, as Qatar are bidding to host the Football World Cup in 2014, we may even catch a glimpse of him in the crowd! Don’t give up on that battered orange vuvuzela yet, Adam!

FM Maintenance work next week

FM need to carry out some concrete cutting outside the north-eastern corner of EPS Library next week (not sure which day). This is to enable them to lay communication cables for the backflow pipes. I’ve asked that the work be done outside Library hours as much as possible as it is exam time and students will be studying. The job is likely to take 1 – 1.5 hours, so FM have assured me they will commence work at 7am and complete the job before, or shortly after, the Library is open.

Power Outage affecting EPS

Hi all
Yesterday afternoon and last night EPS Library, along with most of the School of Engineering, was affected by a major power outage. The Library had to close at approximately 7pm last night. Power was not expected to come back on until later today but due to the efforts of Facilities Management and the electrical contractors, it has just come back on. So just to confirm, EPS is definitely open for business as of this moment (although we are nervously watching the lights….)
Thanks
