Your mouse should be kept as close as possible to your keyboard to prevent excessive reaching.
Most keyboards are set up with the mouse on the right-hand side but left-hand mousing is often encouraged because it:
-Allows the mouse to be closer to you ie you don’t need to reach past the number pad to use the mouse
-Frees your right hand for other tasks
-Is useful for right handers to ‘spread the load’
When swapping from right to left-hand mousing:
-Avoid using a dedicated right hand mouse, use a symmetrical one
-Swap your right and left mouse buttons so that you can use your left index finger as the main selector
-Start on a quiet day when you can have some unpressured practice
When photocopying remember to support books with both hands and slide rather than lift.
If the copier is too low stand with your feet apart and if it is too high make sure your feet are together.
All donations are gratefully received and will go to the City Mission.
Please hand your cans in to either the Education, EPS or Law Library.
Donate a can, build a tree and help a charity in need.
Watch our “Cantastic” trees grow!

Keep those loads close to your body!
From the September ACC connected newsletter:
“Large horizontal or vertical reaches: A 1kg weight held close to your body puts 1kg of pressure on the muscles in your hand and arm. The same weight held straight out to the side is equivalent to holding a 30kg weight close to your body. Find ways to keep loads close to the body or consider using mechanical assistance.”
We had a spill in one of our machines which may have been caused by the toner not being loaded properly.
Once you have placed the toner in the drawer push the drawer all the way back before lowering the green handle (steps 8 and 9 on the door of the machine). Lowering the handle pierces the toner.
The technician advised doing this with the drawer at eye level rather than leaning down to it.
