On Friday the monthly meeting of the Library Committee was held. I am the staff representative on the committee, and I would like to start letting everyone know what was covered in the meetings. Anne has made her Librarian’s report available here. The following points were also discussed:
• Alison McIntyre presented the Information Literacy Report, providing an update on the library’s information literacy initiatives along with statistics for the first half of 2015.
• Greg Marshall spoke about the proposed library hours for summer 2015/16, and for the academic year 2016.
• Helen Thomas gave an update on the collection review pilot project, and the 2015 continuing resources review.
• Helen also presented the proposed new position description for the Library Liaison Officer.
• I spoke about my trip to the UK in June.
• The undergraduate student representative put forward some ideas to improve the students’ experience, including sleeping pods to be available during exam time, and borrowable device chargers.
• Nick Scullin provided us with a summary of the Library 101 programme, which was run in Semester 1.
If you have any questions about the above items or would like more details, please let me know.
On Tuesday 28 July from 2.30-3.30 we will be running a fast and fun game of wharewhare or bingo. It will be in L207 in the Education Library and there will be rounds focusing on Māori numbers from 1-50 and names for family members. There will be prizes, of course. Feel free to do some research – there are some useful resources below:
For reasons that will become clear in time, we require a Bingo basket – a wire cage like arrangement that spins balls with numbers and spits out one at a time.
Does anyone possess one that they would be happy to lend for an event?
Ngā mihi,
Sara
Kia ora koutou,
I am presenting a paper at the British and Irish Law Librarians conference in Brighton next month and I am currently writing my paper on the impact of the earthquakes on our law library. To make it all a bit more interesting, I am including photos of that time. I wondered if anyone had any good photos lurking that they would be happy to share? I am particularly thinking about any photos of us working in unusual spaces – like all in MB when it was the only place open, or perhaps NZI3 or Wairarapa.
I would be very grateful.
Ngā mihi,
Sara
Kia ora koutou,
If you would like to provide some feedback on AskLive, could you please complete the survey by the end of today. Click here to complete the survey. We would appreciate your views, as we hope to improve the service for all.
Ngā mihi,
Sara
Kia ora koutou,
I am one of a team reviewing AskLive to make sure that the service is fulfilling the needs of our customers and that we are sufficiently supported to provide an excellent service. We will be considering the usage from 2014 and making some recommendations on service delivery for 2015.
As part of the review, we would very much like to receive your feedback on AskLive. To this end, I have created a survey using Qualtrics, which should make providing feedback fast and fun(!). Click here to answer the survey. It is only 10 questions long, and should only take about 5 minutes to complete. It is also fairly informal and I am sure that my questions do not conform to good survey practice!
Could you please complete the survey by 10 April. If you would like to ask any questions, the review team members are Isabel Milward, Carolyn McMahon and myself.
Ngā mihi,
Sara
Kia ora,
The Information Literacy Coordinator vacancy is now being advertised on our website. This is a Band 4, full time, continuing position and applications close on 5 January 2015. Spread the word!
Ngā mihi,
Sara
I have just created Legal Research Skills certificates for the final time this year. Students will be coming to collect these from me in Central Library. If students come and ask you questions, please send them up to Level 5, where they can collect their certificate from my desk.
Many thanks,
Sara
As it is the second week of holidays, the Liaison Librarians will not be staffing the help zone during their usual hours. Instead, we will be available at our desks between the hours of 11 and 2 (and most likely other times as well!) and will be happy to receive a call if you have any queries to refer.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sara
I have just done a print run of Legal Research Skills certificates for 50 law students. They will be coming to collect these from me in Central Library. If students come and ask you questions, please send them up to Level 5, where they can collect their certificate from my desk.
Many thanks,
Sara
