On the K drive, there is a folder called “Law Library” which until recently contained about 10 documents. However, recently a new folder appeared in here called “Information Services” which contains a collection of old files and documents (including MB, PSL, lib-guide backups). Do you know about this folder? It is not the same as the other “Information Services” folder on K and I am unclear about where it should belong. If you know anything about this, please let me know as I would like to put it back. Or you could put it back.
Now that we can all see the queues that are being monitored in AskLive, it is possible to send a message directly to the queue of your choice (eg uc.johnarnold@chat.libraryh3lp.com). This is a good thing! However, please be aware that any chat to these queues will be saved in the transcripts and can be read by anyone. If you would like to have a private chat (or at least one where your polite pleasantries to a colleague are not recorded for posterity), you can send your message directly to the individual chat address (eg sara.roberts@libraryh3lp.com).
Please let me know if this needs clarifying.
Sara
Next time you log into AskLive, in additional to the usual “Buddy List”, you will see all of the queues that are currently being monitored. This will enable us to see at a glance who is available and which queues are ‘live’. If you encounter any problems with this new feature, please let me know.
Yesterday I answered an AskLive query where a student wanted me to check his references for a Biological Sciences assignment. I was happy to do this and asked that he send them to me in an email, which he duly did. The downside was that when his email arrived, I realised that he was actually a student at Gustavus Adolphus University in Minnesota, USA. I kindly pointed out that he really ought to ask his own librarians to do this task, to which his reply was “but they’ve all gone home”. This was a lesson to me in the wide worldness of our AskLive presence and how important it is to take the precaution of checking (before things get too involved) whether the person you are dealing with is actually a student at Canterbury.

Sue and I attended the NZLLA Wellington Symposium in August. On Monday 10 October at 10am in the Law Library Dojo, we will be reporting back on some of the really interesting sessions that we attended. Many were not Law specific, including the following:
– Technology trends and the future of libraries
– Social media in business (including how NOT to respond to clients through Facebook and Twitter)
– Workplace team building
We will try and keep it to 30 minutes with coffee and question time to follow.
I have just discovered that I am not unique. There is another Sarah Roberts on Campus and she has been receiving my email. Including my change proposal decision meeting request. Could you please make sure that when you send an email to me, it is to Sara without an ‘h’ at the end.
Thanks, Sara
The Law Library needs many serial boxes to help with the organisation of the EU Collection. If you have any lying around that you would be happy to part with, could you please let me know?
Many Thanks,
Sara
