Hōngongoi Pānui | July 2022

To brighten up your week, the latest Pānui is now available for your perusal. We have an amazing Central Otago travel story, another cartoonist joining the ranks, all you would ever want to know about Wordle, and our final word from Anne.

You can find the finished PDF copy here at K:\Management\Communications\LTR-Newsletters\Pānui 2.0\2022\2022-07-LTR-Pānui.pdf

Please remember to send us material and we will include it in our next issue. Kathryn, Hugh and Simon.

Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa | New Zealand Music Month

NZMM2022-A2-POSTER-Te-Reo-PRESS.pdf

To mark the end of another May music month, there will be an opportunity to view some of the more unusual coloured vinyl records that were in the cabinet (and some more that weren’t). The list of titles to view are in a word document located in the K drive – K:\Operations\Marketing\Events&Promotions\Displays\Curious Cabinets\New Zealand Music Records (this document will be removed in due course).

If anyone is interested in taking a fun break from their day, and having a look and even a touch (cotton gloves provided),  send me an ‘expression of interest’ email and I will arrange a day and time to hopefully suit everyone. This will be from next week. Hugh

Lenticular

For October’s cabinet, I am on the lookout for anything that is lenticular in nature-jigsaws, postcards, rulers, cards. Please refer to this short youtube video for further explanation…

If you have anything at all, and are willing to donate to it to the cabinet for a month, please do get in touch. Hugh

Ao tahi! One World

If anyone has a globe, of any size or type, that they would be willing to donate to the cabinet for a month, please just bring it in next week as soon as possible and/or see me and/or contact me. As usual, I have a few things, but would love to have more. Thanks, Hugh

New Zealand Music T Shirt Day

It’s happening tomorrow Friday 29th May. So for a bit of fun, wear your favourite  NZ music T shirt all day, if you have one. (otherwise any band or concert T shirt would be OK). A roving photographer will be in operation (don’t worry, no faces, just T shirts will be snapped). If we have enough interest, a “match the T shirt to the person” competition may evolve.

Most importantly, please donate to support our musicians. Details are here –

Desk Calendars

While I’m at it, if you are using a desk calendar this year that has pictures, and have kept all the days, I would love to have them as the year comes to an end. Or you could start keeping the days from now on; that would also be great. Again, could you email me if you are willing please…

Calling Generation X

Slightly unusual request-I am seeking a few more 7 inch singles for a possible cabinet idea. If you happen to have a classic 1980’s single or two,  with a lovely picture cover, that you would be willing to have in the cabinet for a month, please email me.

By classic 1980’s, think Bon Jovi, Genesis, Aerosmith, Duran Duran, on and on the list could go…

Ideally the cover would really scream 1980’s as well (big hair, bigger shoulder pads, and lots of interesting fashion.  Examples are hair, I mean here-

Thank you.

Shelf clips

I feel I should really know where these are (all roads now lead to the Law Basement?), but if anyone could tell me the current location of a supply of these, that can be used in the Education collection, please do get in touch. Thanks in anticipation… Hugh

Shilling Club drinks-This Friday

Further to post of 4th October, a reminder that there will be a gathering at the Shilling Club this Friday 24th November. All library staff welcome. The place shuts at 6.00pm, so please do drop in for a 5 minute ‘hello’ on your way home, or stay for a while until we get thrown out. I will be propping up the bar from 4.30, and it would look better if I had company! See you then…
