The twin of this little fella on the left was seen lurking around the tearoom this week, and just as I was about to take a photo of him/her, he/she seems to have wandered off. Anyway, it got me thinking. This would make a great ‘summer season’ curious cabinet. So…the call is out for any staff who has either Furby’s or their cousins, the mighty Mushabellies (on right) (and/or children who would be willing to part with them for a few months). If so, get in touch…

Drinks at the shilling club
To mark the crossover from academic year to summer hours, kaimahi (staff) are invited to the shilling club on Rāmere (Friday) 24th Whiringa-ā-rangi (November) 2017 at about 5.00pm. Pop in for 10 minutes and say hello, or stay a bit longer, it would be great to see you. Mark it in your diary now. A reminder will also be sent closer to the time.
No power at EPS
Kia ora koutou
Just had word from EPS library that the power is out, and that it is probably out at the Core as well. Notification will be made when the situation changes or is resolved.
Emerald critter competition
Plans are underway to win us some goodies in the critter competition. So…this is a shout out to anyone who may have pieces of white or black soft material (fake fur, felt, or similar), to help build a large penguin. Please get in touch ASAP if you can help, as we are a bit time pressured. Or just bring in what you’ve got Monday or Tuesday. Thanks so much, Hugh
Curious Cabinet-Week of the Geek
The very first Puaka-James Hight Curious Cabinet (new, improved, and double the size!) will be themed to tie in with the Week of the Geek, which is coming up later in March.
We hope to get a display into the cabinet (the one by room 212 study rooms) early March, but this is dependent on Derrick Breach’s polyhedral collection being uplifted. So the dates are a little fluid at this stage.
So… in the first instance, if anyone has anything (figurines, dolls, preferably small things) to do with Anime, Manga, Sailor Moon, Star Wars, Armageddonee (??) things etc etc etc, please do get in touch, and I will add you to my email list. I will set a day for bringing things in once the cabinet is vacant, because I don’t want people’s precious collectable hanging around unsecured. … Hugh
Lost glasses
OK, Yes I’ve heard all the jokes about looking for glasses, and no they are not on my head. So… if anyone has acquired a pair of specsavers glasses in a dark coloured case, and you’re not sure where they came from, could you please let me know. They could be mine, as they went AWOL around the 1st of February. Many thanks, Hugh X93896
The weird and the wacky
Just an on-going reminder that the library Christmas lunch team would love to hear from anyone throughout the year, with library related anecdotes and/or images that might fit the above criteria. These can be forward to Hugh in the first instance. Many thanks

April Curious Cabinet
Prompted by more than one staff member to do so (qualifies as popular demand surely), this post is to notify all Harry Potter fanatics, that this month’s cabinet is causing quite a stir (see also Library Facebook page). Come and see it before it, swish and flick, magically vanishes…
