Link check on Subject Guides (LibGuides) web pages

I have just asked for and received the 3 monthly report on broken links in LibGuides pages. It is saved at K:\information_services\LibGuides\custom_linkcheck_report_2011-06-20.htm.

I’ve had a quick spot check of this list and while it’s not 100% perfect (it does report a few links that do work) the vast majority of the reported broken links are in fact broken. Please could all owners of LibGuides pages look at this report and check for broken links on their pages.

If you need any help with correcting any of the links, please don’t hesitate to contact Library eServices

Problem with Payment Plus

There appears to be a problem with PaymentPlus at the moment – the system that allows students to pay fines online.

We have logged a call with ICTS for help with this, as Margaret Adam is away at the moment. Please let Library eServices know if you hear of any successful interactions using PaymentPlus.

Users can be reassured that we have good reporting processes for errors and will follow them up to ensure that their payments are properly recorded on Horizon. However, this may take a few days.

Information about Library staff work places and phone numbers

Library eServices was asked recently about how people could phone us, and also asked to make this information available somewhere to all Library staff.

I’ve now added a heading “Library Staff Workplaces and Phone Numbers” to the “Earthquake Restart – summary of relevant information for Library staff” on Camelot, and added information about where Library Support Services staff are based, and our phone numbers. This page was was originally a summary of information about the University academic restart process, and there is a link to it from the Camelot homepage, above the Counterculture heading.

It would be really good if there was similar information here for other staff as well, so we can find out where to find other staff members and how to contact them. If you are not confident to edit the page yourself, send the information to Library eServices, and I’ll put it there for you.

A compliment for the Library

Over the last couple of days I have helped a Masters of Education distance student complete the submission her thesis to the Library. What I actually did was very little, but obviously just what was needed at the time.

In return I got this wonderful email, which she has given me permission to put on Counterculture. I think a lot of the credit is probably due to staff in the Education Library, but we are all part of the culture and customer service ethic of the Library she is praising. I think it’s very pleasing to receive from one of our students this unsolicited reinforcement of the results we have had returned for a number of years from the InSync survey.

Hi Catherine. Thanks so much. In my first paragraph in my acknolwedgements I thanked the first rate service of the library staff at Canterbury. Im sure no one will read my dissertation but I am intending to send a copy to the Library Manager in due course. The library service has been outstanding. I have had to contact many places, organisations, departments etc in the course of my work, and many I think could learn a lot from your customer service.

Thank you.
