Health & Safety Plan for 2019

The Health and Safety Plan for 2019 is now available here: K:\LIBR-Library\Health-Safety\Health-Safety-Plans

This lists our actions for the year and includes

  • making the  Law Basement an easier place to work
  • reducing the risks for lone working
  • looking at how to improve the quality of our conversations about H&S

Comments or feedback welcome either directly to me (by email or post below) or via your friendly, local H&S rep.

Visit by Cheryl on 8th April

Our new VC is keeping the tradition of meeting with all her staff. She will be visiting us on Monday 8th April at 2pm. We are such a large group that we’ve booked the John Britten Foyer so we can all attend.

Alex Hanlon will introduce the VC. To introduce the Library and give Cheryl a proper Library welcome, we will sing the waiata E Tu, Kahikatea.

If like me, you like to practice before you launch into song, or you want a refresher on the words/tune… I’ll be running a drop in session on Tuesday 2nd April, 2:30-3pm in Puaka-James Hight room 210.

Staffing update

Brian, Caroline and Kiera will continue in their current roles for a little longer than originally expected. We have extended their contracts to January 2020.

The reason for the extension is that the timeline for the Lincoln situation has not got any clearer: UC are still waiting to hear the Minister’s response. We are extending the contracts so we gain stability and continuity as we wait to see what happens with the partnership proposal.

What is Moira doing?

For those of you interested in Moira’s work for the upcoming six months, a brief summary below.

  • Writing briefing papers for senior managers, including the Vice Chancellor, on Open Access and how it’s affecting universities
  • Helping with a review of how well we’ve achieved the aims from our Strategy 2016-2020
  • Helping with projects generally, especially with how we prioritise effectively

Thanks to everyone who has popped in and made her feel very welcome.

Ex Libris visit – open invitation

Monday 25th March 9:30-11am

Open invitation to any interested Library staff to attend a visit by Ex Libris’ Vice President of Teaching and Learning Solutions.

The purpose of Tamar’s visit is to give an update to libraries on Ex Libris’ strategic direction including its Teaching & Learning strategy, as well share some insights on the value and impact that the Leganto Course Resource List is having in terms of the success of academics and students..

In addition, Tamar will be sharing some first high-level details about a new product that Ex Libris is working on.

Drop me an email if you’re interested in attending so I can send on an invite.

Health and Safety assessment report

Apologies for the omission. The Health and Safety report from our October assessment has been lurking on the K drive since late November but I’d failed to post and tell you all where it is!

It’s available here: UoC Library Assessment Report November 2018  and at K:\LIBR-Library\HealthSafety\Assessments\2018

Actions from the assessment are already being picked up by our friendly DPI group and the Library H&S committee and reps.
