If you’d like to explore in the company of others, including the Library website’s project team, please come along to our drop in session on Monday morning.  This runs from 9am – 11am and is open to all.

Website update

The project team have been busy bees and the new Library website will go live on Tuesday 19th September.

Work is starting at 6am.  There will be disruption that morning which, depending on speed of publishing, should be resolved by lunch-time but may last all day.

News of the changes has gone to the Library website, Intercom, Insider’s Guide, Facebook and Twitter.  This directs users to AskLive, LibGuides and Learn (which are unaffected) and is available here: https://blogs.canterbury.ac.nz/librarynews/2017/09/06/library-website-change-19th-september/

Website user testing – prize draw

We are testing the website.  An online survey is open until Friday 25th August.

The survey looks at whether the navigation menu provides a good guide to answering popular user questions, e.g. How do I renew my interloan.  Details of the competition are here: https://blogs.canterbury.ac.nz/librarynews/2017/08/16/help-us-make-our-web-site-better/

Please promote this to any students or staff you’re working with and feel free to take the survey yourselves.  The prize draw hamper is behind the Information Desk at Central Library.

On a related note, the go-live date for the website is now 21st September  (was 31st August).  This change makes sure all we have time to migrate our pages correctly and to put redirects in place for the most popular pages.

Library Staff Forum

Our next all Library staff forum is scheduled for Wednesday 30th August at 2:30pm with a repeat on Thursday 31st at 10:30am.

Due to feedback received from you that the posters have worked well but that it would be nice to have a change, the format of this forum will be different.

There will of course be food and an update from Anne.  This is accompanied by “Managers Speed Dating”.  This means you will have the chance to talk to several managers.  The format is 3 people per manager at any one time 5 minutes per conversational group.

Questions can be on any topic, e.g. what are the latest teaching  trends or how many ebooks have we bought this year or who do you think would win in a fight between Angela Merkel and Donald Trump… No question will be off-limits but managers reserve the right to decline to answer, or to set the question aside on a sticky note for a written answer later on.

Access and Collections staffing proposal

The Library Access & Collections staffing proposal work has been completed.  The changes are summarised below.

1. Resource Discovery Librarians – minor amendment to the position description to include current eServices work
2. eServices team – reporting line moved to Manager, Resource Discovery
3. Assistant Librarian (Interloans) – position description title amended to Assistant Librarian (Document Delivery) and broadened to include copyright for Learn content
4. Creation of 0.5FTE eServices Coordinator position – repurposing of vacant Information Resource Assistant position

These will be coming into effect over the next few months with the aim that all changes will be completed by end of 2017.

My thanks to everyone who participated in this process.

Web update

It’s been a month since our last update and a lot has happened.

We will migrate to the new site on Thursday 31st August.  The Online Experience project team will be working with us from 7am on that day.  All going well, most of our pages will be live before 9am.

Richard Corby from the team is now based in the Access & Collections office to help us prepare.

The Library team have created a draft of the navigation structure for the website.  This is now being tested with students to check they can quickly and easily find the information they need.

The Online Experience team are creating pages in the new format but there’s still a lot of work to do.  For a sneak peek… http://ucwcmswebl1p.canterbury.ac.nz/library-preview/
