Library Roadmap 2020-2030

Thank you for participating in last week’s staff fora. As mentioned during those sessions, we are looking for your ideas to support these aims. This could be a specific task or a general area of improvement. E.g. for “Just-for-me information services supporting flexible education delivery” you might suggest “Drone delivery of holds items” 🙂

The roadmap will going to be made available on the K drive next week. In the meantime, if you’d like to view the Trello board, just drop me an email.

Need a snazzy infographic for a report or presentation?

The Library has a subscription to Piktochart. Piktochart can be used to create infographics and social media graphics. The site also has nifty templates for presentation and reports.

Piktochart is free to use but we bought a Pro subscription. This removes the Piktochart watermark, allows PDF export and the use of higher quality images.

If you’d find it useful for your work, please contact Anton who has the account details.

Library Liaison Officer October meeting

We have our second meeting of the year on 13 October. The Library Liaison Officers list is available here: http://library.canterbury.ac.nz/webapps/public/llo.php

This is our chance to talk to these departmental representatives and tell them about changes to support. We often use this meeting to talk about projects or service improvements.

If you have been been working on something of interest to our academic colleagues, please let your manager know by 7 October.

eResearch Australasia

We purchased several places at the eResearch Australasia online conference

The conference runs from 19 – 23 October. It covers a wide range of topics, which would be of interest to librarians such as “The Value of eResearch Services: Harmonising Key Performance and Key Value Indicators”… or maybe that one just appeals to me 🙂

A full list of the poster presentations are available here: https://conference.eresearch.edu.au/2020-eresearch-online-posters/

If you’re interested in attending, please contact me or Alison, Stuart, Anton. We can share our details or book a room so we can watch live.

Walk today – 12pm

Whether or not you’re participating in the 10,000 step challenge or just fancy a lunchtime stroll, join us at 12pm today. Walk leaves from the Book Return box on Level 1 Puaka-James-Hight and lasts 30 minutes.

The Library’s two teams have walked nearly 5 million steps since the challenge started. And are helping to support UC’s performance in the challenge: https://www.10000steps.org.au/tournament-timeout/11598/

Moira’s new job

Moira Fraser will be taking up a new role on 5 October 2020.

Moira has been working with the Library since February 2019. She helped us progress our Open Access plans during her role as Project Lead and has worked with Jenny to support the From Physical Collections to Learning Spaces project. I would like to thank Moira for her work and congratulate her on her new role…

Which is a very short hop over the office divider as Moira will be remaining on Level 5 PJH and reporting to Nick Ford as the Digital Learning Project Manager. Wishing you the best of luck with your new project!
