An interesting US survey of academics’ use of OERs; more report using them than report knowing what they are! That probably means that they use pictures or videos (the most popular types of OERs) without any thought of the licensing. http://campustechnology.com/articles/2014/10/29/two-thirds-of-faculty-unaware-of-open-education-resources.aspx
Next week is the annual focus on teaching at UC, with events of interest each day. The main events are outlined at the Learning and Teaching web site.
The sessions will include three Teaching Showcases, where winners of Teaching Awards talk about their innovations, advice on postgraduate supervision on Tuesday morning, e-learning and blended delivery on Thursday morning, and other sessions on diversity and assessment.
All sessions will be in Room 101 in the Undercroft.
This is more for the technical types, but with all the publicity about this vulnerability, it’s nice to know that ITS server group are onto the situation.
“We will be pushing out all pending patches for our managed Red Hat Linux machines at 3am tomorrow morning (11/4). The systems will be rebooted at 5am.
This patching has been brought forward to ensure the patch for the “heartbleed” OpenSSL vulnerability is released to all systems.
So far tests on our systems have not shown any to be vulnerable, but the patching is a precaution for a particularly bad vulnerability.
Any sites behind our BigIP reverse proxy appliances are not affected as the version of OpenSSL on these devices is not one of those impacted by this vulnerability.”

Susan Tull – 93187
Donna Thompson – 93072
Gregor Ronald – 93225
