ICTS are having some problems with the Shibboleth server that logs us in to Camelot – this means you probably won’t be able to use Horizon reports e.t.c. until the issue is fixed.
They are working on the problem so hopefully it will be fixed soon.
The Horizon server will be undergoing further maintenance today at around 3pm. ICTS have assured us that it won’t affect the system, but I’m reporting it just in case of any slowness as a result. The maintenance will involve swapping over a further failed hard-drive (following the replacement of two failed hard-drives in November), which can fortunately be swapped without shutting Horizon down.
Temporary fencing has been erected on the north side of the Law Building. There is no access to the building from the north.
Access is now from the south, (car-park), side of the building. Please refer to map below:”
Here is something to add to your New Year’s resolutions under the “keep fit” heading. (Warning: Be careful if you are using a wheelie chair when doing this!)
The IngentaConnect website appears to be having some technical issues.
From Ingenta: “ingentaconnect is currently unavailable. The most likely cause is a server error, which should be fixed shortly. Please try again in a little whileThe most likely cause is a server error, which should be fixed shortly”
Serials Solutions have recently released a new set of enhancements for Summon which could be quite useful. Some of these have been implemented by default, and eServices have implemented some others so that you can have a look at the changes and provide feedback about what we should and shouldn’t keep, and which features we should develop further.
We have created a new report that allows staff to wand in barcodes of journals and directly change their status to ‘weedj’ on the catalogue (it can be used instead of scanning and sending barcode files to e-services, handy if you’ve only got a few journals to throw out).
The report is called Change status from i,s,z to weedj – serials only and can be found in the same place as the monograph version on the “Weeding” Horizon reports page on Camelot. The report changes the item status from ‘in library’ or ‘recently returned’ to ‘weedj’, which will ensure the it goes through the correct serial weeding process (copy records will be tidied up and the item will be depreciated if eligible). On the catalogue the item will show as ‘item for deletion’.
Given the current volume of weeded serials, it is likely the items will stay on the catalogue for some time before they are deleted.
If you want to weed serials that have stati other than in library/recently returned, please contact LSS or e-services.
An unintended consequence of having the central library location “closed” on Horizon (while Central is shut for remediation) is that any Central items are currently being issued to/recalled to the next day central is open (so the usual 3 days rule for recalls and 1 week rule for due dates of items where there are following requests, are not being applied literally) . As the next day Central is open is the 18th of February 2013, this isn’t particularly desireable for the requestors.
This will also affect high demand items currently in the central high demand collection – i.e. 3-day loans issued from 13th November – 15th November and 1-day loans issued on the 15th November. Once we move the collection to EPS high demand items should be ok and adhere to normal hd loan periods.
We are working on finding a way around this problem (particularly with recalls) but it in the meantime, if you get people issuing central items at the desk, please take the opportunity to edit due dates of requested items.
