Yesterday I added 2 new, and modified 1 existing itype for interloans on Horizon. This required additions and changes to many circulation parameters as well.
I did a certain amount of testing and all seemed to be well, but I couldn’t test for every possible scenario. So if you find something strange happening with an interloaned item (something we’ve borrowed from another library for one of our users) please email Library eServices or Interloans ASAP.
Further to my earlier progress report about interloan changes …
Please note that the parameter to change the length of time an interloan item stays on the hold shelf was changed on Monday 22 August, and that any interloan holds generated before this change will still have the old parameter meaning that the holds will expire sooner than 14 days for these items. We should start to see interloans remaining on the hold shelf for the longer period from next week. From Tuesday (30th) if you see interloan holds expiring after less than 14 days on the hold shelf, please contact Library eServices.
Text messages for interloan holds are now going out to borrowers who have a mobile number on their Horizon record.
Email reminders will now be sent to borrowers who have a hold on an interloaned item that has remained on the hold shelf for more than a week.
Last week a posting Interloans changes described changes that were imminent for interloans. These are now underway, and the following changes have been made on Horizon:
The standard loan period for interloans from other libraries issued to our users should now be 28 days
Interloan items on the hold shelf will now be there for 14 days
UC items sentd to other libraries will now issue for 42 days
At least that’s the intention, and testing indicated that it’s all set up properly. But please contact Library eServices if you find any exceptions to the above.
Still to be implemented (currently with Margaret for programming)
Text messages sent to borrowers when there is an interloan waiting for them
Reminders sent to borrowers if they have not picked up an interloan after 7 days
Recalls sent to other libraries for our items requested, after a minimum 3 week loan period
A number of people have reported that the ebook limiting doesn’t seem to be working properly in Multisearch.
We’ve had an email from the Summon people saying that this is being reported, and with a long explanation why. They say they “are aware of this issue and have a solution in development”, so hopefully it will all come right soon.
I will keep an eye on it, and if it’s still not right next week, will get back to them.
Could the person who was talking to Joanna on AskLIVE yesterday about ebooks, please contact Library eServices. She has sent us her email, but we need to know more about the particular titles she was asking about, so we can follow up her enquiry. Catherine
We’ve had a few enquiries about running a repeat session for Library staff about the new method for requesting interloans.
We are running a session for Library support services staff at 10am on Wednesday (15 June), in the L2 computer room in the Education Library, and any other library staff are welcome to attend.
There are also 2 sessions for other UC staff and students on Wednesday, one at 11am in the L2 computer room in the Education Library, and the other at 2.10pm at Ilam campus, Oval Village KE05. There are currently plenty of places left on these courses, so Library staff could sign up for one of these, which will cover the same ground but with a different emphasis and and any discussion needs to be from the perspective of the user, rather than Library staff.
On Wednesday 8 June, at 11am and in the Education Library L2 Computer Room, Jessica and Catherine will be running a session on zportal – the new interloans system that our users will be switching to on or about 15 June. The session will consist of a demonstration and a chance for users to have a play on the test version of the system.
The session is aimed at Liaison Librarians and others who are likely to get questions from users about placing interloan requests.
Lin and I can’t find the two library IT trolley’s. Has anyone stumbled across them since the re-opening of the James Hight Library?
If you could let us know where to find them, that would be fantastic.
There are number of workstations that Liaison Librarians can book to use, 8 at Wairarapa and 1 in Education Library. These can be booked on the Library online booking system, on the page for Library Staff. Please note, that the name of this page has changed from Wairarapa Workstations, as it was previously, to Liaison Librarian Workstations now that there is also one available in the Education Library.
I’m going to be going around with a card and collecting donations for Alison Rashbrook’s farewell gift. As it’s not easy to find people at the moment, and as there’s a very short time frame, I might not catch everyone who wishes to sign the card. Donations towards a gift can be left in Library eServices, and the card will be available at the morning tea on
Thursday 24th for anyone who misses out signing it beforehand. Alternatively, make a trip up to Library eServices first thing in the morning, or in the late afternoon, and I will do my best to ensure the card is here then.
