IT Services, Equipment, software and connecting to the network – staff development sessions

Hi all

There’s been a bit of confusion over the IT Services, Equipment, software and connecting to the network staff development sessions – we thought this was 2 repeat sessions of the same course content, however it turns out today’s session was session 1 of 2 separate sessions. We covered RAS, the IT account accounting system today and in the next session on the 19th Feb at 2-3pm the Workrooms and services in the library (wireless network, printing etc.) will be covered. Staff who attended today’s session can now book into the second session.

The IT troubleshooting session this Thursday is effectively part 3 of the series.

All 3 sessions are covered in a training document which I have placed on the How To… wiki page under IT help – ITS, for anyone who has/will missed/miss one or more of the sessions

EndNote Wiki now a LibGuide

Dave Lane has created a new EndNote guide in LibGuides to replace the old EndNote Wiki. This guide is now live, and links on the Library website are being updated (the A-Z database EndNote links will be updated in due course). The UC Web Team have also been notified of the change so that any links on the wider UC site can be updated.

Could all owners/editors of Subject Guides please check and update any wiki links to:

http://canterbury.libguides.com/endnote

The EndNote wiki will still be available until all links have been redirected, but the content will no longer be updated. Please report any outdated links/text you find on the Library Website to eServices.

Wiki upgrade creating problems for some people this morning

Hi All

We’ve had some reports that most people are unable to access Camelot (and other wiki spaces) this morning following a wiki upgrade. We’ll liaise with ITS over this and attempt to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

In the meantime – I’ve saved some of the more used “User Services” Horizon reports pages as pdfs (links work) into a folder on the K:drive
K:\LIBR-Library\library_IT\Horizon_reports_selection
I’m happy to take requests for other pages/Horizon reports if you need them.
Currently the e-services team seems to still have access to the wiki, so please ask us for anything you need. We’ll keep you up to date as we hear from ITS

Cheers, Romy (on behalf of e-services)

Multisearch in IE 10

Hi all

There is a problem for some people using Internet Explorer 10 to do Summon searching. An error message: “Application error. Your search failed to complete. Please try again” occurs upon submitting a search. We have reported this to Serials Solutions and hope to have this fixed soon.
Multisearch is working fine in other browsers, it seems to just be an IE 10 problem. We’ll update once we get a response from Serials Solutions.

Kind Regards,

Romy

Google Scholar not bringing up “Full text at UC” links today

Hi all

We are currently experiencing issues with Google Scholar not recognizing our holdings. I think this is a problem with our full text linking provider (Serials Solutions) and have reported it to them. Hopefully they will resolve the situation soon.

Please advise Google Scholar users to use Multisearch instead (they can still use scholar but will need to click on each search result link to find out if we have access to the full text or not). UC library has disappeared from the Google Scholar Library Links list in the settings menu – the search result that comes up Canterbury Christ Church University is not us.

We’ll keep you posted on a resolution to this problem.

Kind Regards,

Romy
