Horizon username search in Find Borrower menu

Hi All

For those of you that use the username search in Horizon to try to find borrower records (via F4 – Find Borrower in the CKO menu).
The criteria for this has changed slightly due to some changes to the underlying table.

Please now enter an asterisk (*) before and after your search term e.g.

*abc123*

The bonus of this is it searches across all usernames we have in Horizon for that person.
Previously the search only searched the primary username of a borrower e.g. for someone who was both student AND staff – the search would find them via their student username but not their staff one.

You will need to close Horizon and re-open it to pick up these changes

Course codes in borrower records

Hi all

I’m after a bit of feedback to get an idea of how people are using course code information stored in Horizon borrower records.

As part of some recent changes to the borrower load process course codes can’t currently be displayed in the Edit Borrower (F6) screen.

As such – for people who need this information – we have 2 options:
1) To display it in another Horizon screen
2) – the preferred option – we could create a Horizon Report to list course codes.
– and/or – High Demand staff using course code info for frequently requested items – we will incorporate requestor course code information straight into the report.

If you use the course code information in the Horizon borrower records please let me know (email e-services ), along with an indication of what you use it for and your preference of either looking up the info in Horizon or using a report.

Kind Regards,

Romy

Check your Firefox version

Hi all

If you’re using Firefox for applications like AskLive (or for anything really), please check to make sure you are on the latest version supplied by ICTS (24.2). To check your version – Go to the Help button on the toolbar and click on “About Firefox” in the dropdown menu. Some staff are still on version 10 and this has been causing problems with not hearing notifications in AskLive.

If you’re on an older version you can upgrade to 24.2 ESR via Run Advertised Programs (or Install a Program from the Network) in the Windows Control Panel.

Library Catalogue Maintenance scheduled for Wednesday 28th May (approx 8:30-10:30am)

Hi all

We’ll be attempting to fix the current index/search problems we’ve been having with the library catalogue tomorrow morning.
The fix has worked well on our test catalogue so we anticipate it will mean an end to the keyword/course code search problems of late.

While we’re working on it, the catalogue will be down for a short time tomorrow, around 8:30am.

Once it comes back up, searching will be inaccurate for around an hour as we rebuild the keyword/course code indexes.

We’ll put an article up on Library News, a slide on the website, and will also put text into the home page of the catalogue stating that searches may be unreliable for a time.

We suggest you advice patrons to use multi-search instead of the catalogue while we’re working on it. Be aware that you may need to help borrowers locate items and place requests on their behalf. Title alphabetical searches should still work throughout the process

For the very brief time the catalogue is down (we’re talking a few minutes only, at the beginning of the process) requesting will not work (through Horizon) and patrons will be unable to log in to their library accounts.

Thanks for your patience.

Romy
