All CDs and DVDs have now been moved from level 7 to level 8. In the same corner, just a floor higher. Weeded CDs will be available on level 5 until tomorrow or Friday, then will be taken to the L2 storeroom for a future student giveaway.

Weeded CDs are available for staff to take, in the breakout space (next to the tearoom) on level 5.
Surge protectors
Did anyone order two Belkin surge protectors from Ingram Micro New Zealand Ltd? They are for 6 plugs & 2 USBs. Currently in the level 2 workroom.
Q books on level 4
Please note the Q section of books that was at the end of the Classroom Collection on level 4, is now situated between P and R on level 4, between the lifts.
Ghosts & things that go bump in the … library
There have been reports recently of people hearing ghosts on the Dovedale campus. In the Henry Field library store the movers who were there packing books kept hearing someone saying “Shhh” and then two finger clicks. In the Waimairi building they said there was a girl in the toilet, a young man in the lift (who spoke) and a young person (they couldn’t tell the gender) who paces up and down continually. (I don’t know if they saw or just heard these!)
Does anyone remember any other ghosts on Dovedale campus? Has anyone met any on Ilam? I’m just hoping the dead birds found in Henry Field don’t come back!
(Not counting Dave Lane’s ghost stories told under a convenient air conditioning vent in EPS!)
DPI tip for August
If you found the eye yoga section of the latest DPI refresher interesting and want to have another look at the video, this is the youtube link.
Please note, the main benefit is relieving eye strain. We don’t claim eye yoga can cure short-sightedness or give you x-ray vision! It is also good to take a break from staring at a screen for a bit and remember to blink.

Postal service and journals
A reminder that we will scan journal articles for Distance students, but we can’t post journal issues or bound journals. This includes Post-grad students and staff who are using the “click and post” service, which is continuing. They need to contact us via email, phone or Asklive, and let us know what they need scanned. The distance services page is being updated to state this more clearly.

Kia ora koutou,
Read NZ Te Pou Muramura (formerly NZ Book Council) has joined forces with SPCA to get kids reading more books over the holidays.
The SPCA Reading Challenge is an interactive website. Children aged 5 and up are invited to register for free and choose an animal team to ‘play’ for. Players log the books they read over the summer, along with a star rating and short review. A leader board keeps track of the teams as they move up and down the rankings accordingly.
Launching on December 14, the SPCA Reading Challenge will run until January 22.
Paper Plus gift cards are up for grabs every day of the competition. There are lots of books to be won too, thanks to the support of Wellington publisher Gecko Press. To win a specially-curated bundle of books about animals, children can send in a picture of themselves reading to a pet, farm, or wildlife animal, or even a stuffed animal friend. The top readers in each team will also win Paper Plus gift cards at the end of the competition.
Sign up for the SPCA Reading Challenge by registering at reading-challenge.org.nz
