New online Interloans Request forms 20 March 2008

20th March will see the introduction of only one form for users to fill in when requesting an interloan. The one form will accommodate loans and/or copies and should make it easier for our users. However there may be some confusion when they first access it as they do not have a choice of forms to select and the only one available does not present with all the usual fields. Users are simply invited to indicate if they are requesting a ‘whole’ item or ‘part’ of an item. Once that selection is made the appropriate fields for completion appear. Thanks Library IT for this added extra.

Reminder to all Desk Staff – please DO NOT renew interloans on Horizon.

Please DO NOT renew interloans on Horizon.

The Central Library Interloans Team are the only staff able to do this as the Horizon renewal (while technically possible) is not effective as it is only the lending library who can grant an extension, and only Interloans staff who know which library to contact. There are also many items sent to us on Interloan that have a ‘no renewal’ restriction.

This item is being blogged as there was recently an occasion where 3 interloans were renewed on Horizon unbeknown to the Interloans Team. It was only when overdue notices with talks of fines were received from the lending library that the Horizon renewals were discovered – without the coding that the Interloans Team use to identify renewals they action.

Central Library Interloans Reference Only Hold Shelf

When a MARKER on the Central Library Interloans Reference Only Hold Shelf informs you that the item is held in the Level 3 Reading Room…

Very occasionally Reference Only Interloans are supplied to University of Canterbury staff and students with a Reading Room restriction placed on the loan by the lending library. These Reference Only Interloans cannot be read in a public area with some also having a ‘no photocopying’ restriction.

The user will be informed that his/her item has arrived and is available for consultation in the Reading Room on Level 3 where Robin and Bronwyn will supervise use. He/she has also been advised of the days and times that the Reading Room is open. Interloans staff will monitor the due dates as they do for normal Reference Only Interloans.

The MARKER with the user’s name is placed on the Central Library Interloans Reference Only Hold Shelf just in case the user does not read his/her notification correctly and comes to the Lending Desk and asks for their interloan. If this does happen desk staff can redirect the user.
