Telsig – discussion group – Tues 29/9

Tuesday 29th September, 5:30pm at CPIT, Room L202 access from the 2nd floor of foyer Tea/coffee and biscuits provided.

The article and questions for this month’s journal article discussion group. Kennan, M. A., Corrall, S., & Afzal, W. (2014). “Making space” in practice and education: Research support services in academic libraries. Library Management, 35(8/9), 666-683. doi:10.1108/LM-03-2014-0037

Versions are available at:

and

The Questions:

1. Are the changes to supporting research indicated in the article similar to what is happening at your library? What are the changes you are experiencing?

2.W hat are the challenges in managing the development of the new and increased research support services being undertaken by academic libraries?

3. How do we ‘make space’ for not only changing support for research services but other demands on academic libraries? As alluded to on page 680, what, if anything, can be dropped from LIS education or the professional services academic libraries offer to staff, students and institution?

4.What skills do Librarians need to reflect the emerging trends in research support now and in future?

You do not have to be a TELSIG or LIANZA member to participate. But please RSVP to Lorna.smith@cpi
