The contractors return to level 4 on Thursday to dismantle the second block of older shelving. The photos below show the new shelving in place at the start of the floor. Level 4 now starts part way through the PA sequence. We just couldn’t fit all of PA on Level 6 and we don’t have the luxury of leaving empty shelving. The second photo starts to give the feel for the space the classroom collection will use in 2018.
Work will continue on level 4 in January with our casual staff starting back on Wednesday 11 January. Sandra and I start back on Monday 9 January. In order to clear the shelving to be moved we have had to ‘poke’ stock where we could. This means that a section of PR and PS are on Level 7 and on level 4 the remainder of the PS is between PN and PR. We just couldn’t face moving a whole lot of stock for the sake of keeping the sequence right for the next two weeks. The catalogue is correct regarding the floor level. Once the contractors leave, the staff will finish moving the stock forward. From time to time we may need to change the restrictions zones on the level 4. We promise that when we finish the books will be shelved in sequence. Joan and Sandra
A large section of the PR – English Literature collection has been temporarily moved to Level 7 of the Central Library. The catalogue is updated daily with the progress of the moves. This move has been necessary to clear the shelving which is then being moved to the north side of level 4. The contractors are moving fast on Level 4 so we are almost running to keep ahead of them. The PR collection will be returned to level 4 once all of the shelving reconfiguration has been completed. Joan and Sandra
The book moving through Central is making good progress. The collection on levels 6-11 now has space for the Education collection. The teams have started moving the Fine Arts books from level 4 up to 6. After the newest shelving has been moved in its new location we will be able to start moving the level 4 collection around. Joan and Sandra
A reminder that access to level 4 will be restricted from Wednesday 7 December. Shelving is being dismantled, reassembled and some is being disposed of. The staff lift will be used by the contractors to move the steel out of the library. Thanks Joan
The power will be off in PJH 19 and 26 November. There is a chance that food in the freezer may thaw and refreeze. Please manage your own food if you are storing it in the fridge and freezer.
The quality of the milk will need to be checked on Sunday. Joan
The detective fiction collection has now been placed into open boxes and placed on the desks at the East end level 4. This is a temporary location until the shelving move has been completed on level 4. The collection is still borrowable. Joan
