Casual work with Library Access and Collections team
From 30 Nov–23 Dec there are casual hours available to work with the LAC team.
The work will be paid at your current band 2 rate or at the bottom of the band if you are not on band 2 currently. Work will include, scanning reports and theses, some work with Adobe, processing of withdrawals, data collation regarding collections eg serials, labeling new resources and relabeling etc.
We are flexible with days and times when staff would work so you could fit the hours around existing part time work. We are not in a position to back fill so these hrs are in addition to your current part-time or casual hrs.
If you have an queries please get in touch with Joan asap.
Please email Joan Simpson with your expression of interest by Thursday 26 Nov 6 pm. You need to detail the days and times when you would be available. 6 hrs per wk minimum 12 hrs per week maximum per person. You can work between 8 am and 6 pm Mon-Fri.
Hi all
Please let us know if you would prefer buffet or set pre-ordered menu for Library Lunch. We will be catering for vegetarian, gluten free, diary free as well as any other dietary requirement we have been told about it. Please respond to Joan Simpson by Monday 2 November 4 pm. Thanks Joan, Jo and Janette W.
A comparison of the CD music collection with the NAXOS database is underway by the LAC team. This work will also involve the customer services team at a later time. The School of Music have advised that their preferred format is streaming audio. As the work progresses LAC will change the status to ‘ncf’ of all items which are also on NAXOS. CDs which are not available on NAXOS will be returned to the shelving on level 4. Once the School of Music collection has be combined with the Central Collection the withdrawal process will be completed. Please encourage the library users to use NAXOS. If the CD has a ‘ncf’ status please ask the user to request it. Please contact me if you have any queries. Thank you Joan
You are all invited to a Library lunch on Friday 11 Dec to mark the end of another year working together. We have booked Bentley’s again but please forward other suggestions if you would like somewhere different. We are waiting for confirmation that the libraries can close for the day at 12.30pm for a lunch at 1 pm. The menu and price are not available at this time. Please email Joan if you have specific food requirements before Friday 6 November. Jo, Joan, Janette Winks
Aoraki LIANZA and the local Telsig group are keen to bring library colleagues together for a social evening. Please join us at the new Dux Central from 5pm on Tuesday 20 October for a drink and a natter. Look for us in the garden bar and please invite library colleagues along….more the merrier. The aim is to get to know new colleagues in the region and to catch up with those we haven’t seen for a while. Access Dux Central from Popular Lane or Lichfield Street.
I will definitely be going so can offer 3 people a ride.

The library has a supply of archive cartons which no longer meet the quality of the cartons to be used. Some are simply cardboard and others have a waxed liner on the base or lid. On some of the templates there are errors eg a fold line may not be cut /indented which makes it more of a challenge to make up the carton. However they are available if you have a work or personal use for them. Approx sizes in mm. 290w, 257h, 400d and 300w, 165h and 400d. The flat packed cartons have been stored for a number of years in the UC warehouse. Please email me if you are interested in picking up some of these cartons. These are good cartons but not quite as strong as the Book Cartons. Joan carton1 carton2
