It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas so save the date of Friday 9 December in your calendars for the Library Christmas Lunch.
We will be returning to Bentley’s and there will be no cost to staff for the lunch, but a cash bar will be available for drinks. The libraries will close from 12.30. Janette will send a calendar invite closer to the time, in the meantime here is a pic of my cat in Christmas attire for your amusement.
The MB team have been doing daily DPI exercises at our ‘9.30 catch ups’. I thought I’d share this pic from this morning of us doing the thoracic spine and rhomboids stretch, aka the ‘Power Ranger’.
The Kaitakawaenga Māori role is now being advertised on the UC vacancies website (job ID 3896). Please note that this role has had a change of reporting line to Macmillan Brown Library but the role otherwise essentially retains the same role and purpose.
Huge thanks go to Caroline, Kathryn, Kim and Nekerangi who have taken on additional work over the past few months.
The Canterbury Disaster Salvage Team will be delivering a hands on, two day fire and flood salvage workshop at the Woolston Fire Training Facility, 26-27 October 2016.
The library is able to send three staff members to this so if you would like to attend, please send expressions of interest with a brief to Jo Condon via email by 19 August. Include a brief explanation as to why you are interested in attending.
Note that this is a practical workshop which involves salvaging wet and burnt materials. The wearing of unflattering shoes, clothing and headwear may be required!
Congratulations to ‘Ngā Putiputi’, (Bronwyn, Rosamund, Beth and Caroline A). The floral four gave an impressive performance, fighting off a strong challenge from the sharp-toothed trio, ‘Te Ururoa’ (Helen, Te Paea, Alison Mc).
Both teams get to enjoy some well earned coffee and chocolate. Thanks to Kathryn for an outstanding quiz, and to Lisa for providing musical accompaniment to our waiata and to all our participants.
Central Library is hosting an exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Court of Justice’s ruling on the legality of nuclear weapons on 8 July. The landmark Advisory Opinion was the culmination of a decade’s worth of effort put forth by the World Court Project (WCP).
The exhibition is a collaboration between UC Library, Canterbury Museum and Kate Dewes of the Disarmament and Security Centre. It coincides with a symposium to be held at UC on 8 July discussing the effects of the court’s decision twenty years on.
You are welcome to join the MB team as we farewell Jamie Hanton on Thursday 23 June from 3.00 – 4.00pm in PS208, aka the Pasifika Lali Room. We have a Midwinter Christmas theme so please feel free to dress accordingly!
Jamie has made a huge contribution to UC and is leaving to take on an exciting new role as Director at the Physics Room. We wish him all the best.
