We are very happy to have welcomed Caroline back to the MB team this week after her year long adventure. Sadly though this means it is time for Lyn to return to Christchurch City Libraries and her last day with us will be Thursday 18 January.
We will farewell Lyn on Tuesday 16th from 3.00pm in the Pasifika Lali room so please feel to come along – we have invited some of Lyn’s CCL colleagues to join us. This unfortunately clashes with the Arts Centre tour for library staff, so if you can’t make it feel free to stop by MB for a visit some time.
We have loved having Lyn as part of the MB team and will really miss her, but hope to keep in regular contact with her and other CCL colleagues, and follow progress on their new Turanga Central Library which is an exciting development for the city.
The Library’s ‘Canterbury Roll’ has been receiving some media attention this week as a team of researchers have been doing a scientific investigation of the five metre long manuscript:
There will be a public lecture in Poutama on Friday from 3-4pm by Professa Haida Liang from Nottingham Trent University “A Holistic Approach to the Non-invasive Scientific Examination of HistoricManuscripts”
The switchboard to our building is being upgraded over the next 2-3 days from tomorrow. We’ll have 24 hour per day power, but as we are running on power from the Forestry building we’ve been advised that there isn’t enough to power the lift. So unfortunately there will be no disabled access to the building.
Calling any creative Christmas elves! Are there a couple of people who could come over to Bentley’s Bar at 11.30am on Friday to help set up xmas decorations on the tables?
Just to add to all the drama and excitement of the MB refresh (stuff everywhere, temporary desk, carpet being laid) the lift has decided to break down. We hope to have it fixed by this afternoon but please advise anyone you are sending to MB that there is currently no lift access.
And it wouldn’t be Christmas without the annual Christmas Library Lunch! We’ll be returning to our familiar venue of Bentley’s so save the date for Friday 8 December. As usual food is provided, and a cash bar is available for drinks. We will close the libraries for the afternoon so that no-one returns work looking like these folks! We don’t want to give the students a fright. More info to follow nearer the time.

Just to let you all know that Waitangi will return from parental leave this coming Monday 4 September. The MB team are looking forward to having her back – a few of us got to have cuddles with the gorgeous Te Wehengarua this morning when they popped in to visit, (sorry I forgot to get a photo!).
Waitangi will be based at MB for her first week back while she catches up on everything.
I would really like to acknowledge Nekerangi for his commitment to supporting the students, by basing himself at Education two days a week – it has been a very busy time. Also thanks to the Education subject librarians for providing additional support during this time, it is much appreciated.
Just to let you all know that the upgrade of the MB side of the library warehouse is now completed and we are able to resume retrieving collections. There are a few bits and pieces to finish off but generally it is looking great!
