Next year all databases remaining on the SilverPlatter platform will be moved to OvidSP (see earlier post). The move to OvidSP can be done at any time before SilverPlatter is officially retired. Our preview/trial will end next week and I would like to suggest that we move our databases onto OvidSP immediately. Please post a comment or let me know your preferences so that I can get the move underway asap.

Web of Knowledge
Web of Knowledge has now been changed to the new version. A couple of problems have been noted:
– users may think that the Web of Science links are incorrectly connecting to Web of Knowledge because that is what they see on screen and don’t notice the active tab for WoS, CCC, etc.
– personalization features (My Journal list, My Saved Searches, etc) may not work
The personalization features require new SSL certificates. These may be fine on staff machines but are causing problems on student and express PCs (especially with IE7). This is being fixed asap. Meantime, use Firefox (and click OK for the certificate alert box) for access.
Please let me know of any other problems
Issue with Recent Scopus Records
This email was recently sent to registered Scopus users:
“In the past two weeks, as a part of our initiative of loading pre-1996 articles to enrich Scopus content, a large number of articles from Elsevier journals were loaded erroneously into Scopus with incorrect publication year and incomplete source title information.
As a result of this, an incorrect publishing year of 2007 and 2008 has been assigned to these records and only limited source information is available, namely journal title and page numbers. Because of the incomplete information, the mechanism that is used to remove duplicate articles hasn’t worked properly either. As a consequence, the records are incorrectly appearing in your search alerts as well.
A solution to resolve this issue is already in place and we expect the records with the incorrect information to be removed from Scopus by the end of next week.”
MEDLINE
We have lost our access to MEDLINE on CSA Illumina. I have contacted CSA and hopefully access will be restored asap.
In the meantime, direct users to PubMed or NLM Gateway.
Small IEEE Xplore problem
When using IEEE Xplore with IE7 you may find that you are unable to access the options available when using the “View Session History” screen. IE 7 shows “Error on page” in the status bar when you click on a number of a search query and the Options window does not appear. It is not a problem with IE6 or Firefox.
IEEE has been contacted.
GBIP Survey
From GBIP:
“We are excited to inform you about a chance you have to win one of three $100 gift cards to either Borders or Barnes and Noble!
All you need to do is complete a short survey about Global Books in Print. You can access the survey from the homepage of Global Books in Print. It is the top item in the Latest News box.
The survey will help us to shape our data collection strategy to best suit the needs of our customers – that’s you! Once you’ve completed the survey, record your details in the fields provided to enter the draw to win a voucher.”
Good luck
CIO Knowledge Centre
Thanks to ICT Services we now have access to the Butler Group CIO Knowledge Center, an Information Technology market research database. The CIO Knowledge Centre presents up-to-date IT research and analysis in the form of reports, papers, articles, and profiles, as well as interactive databases. Users can build a clippings library and their own reports and presentations.
To use it, you must first register with your UC email address (other email addresses will expire within 24 hours) and create a login for further usage. It has been added to the Library Catalogue and to the Databases-B page.
The Web access link goes to the login page for people who have registered and I’ve added a note for the link to register first, so I hope that is clear enough. Access conditions and a guide to using the Knowledge Centre are on the Databases-B page.
JSTOR additions
5 more collections have been added to our JSTOR subscription – Arts & Sciences V, Arts & Sciences Complement, Biological Sciences, Business II and Health & General Sciences. All titles are immediately available via JSTOR (and will be in the E-Journal Portal tomorrow) but will not appear in the Catalogue until next month.
OvidSP
Later this year our SilverPlatter databases (Biological Abstracts, Biosis Previews, Geobase, Forest Science, Philosophers Index and Zoological Record) will change to a new platform, OvidSP. We currently have a preview of OvidSP until 13 February 2008.
For more details, see OvidSP (linked from the Electronic Resources Trials page) or find a link to one of the above databases on the Databases pages. Access during the trial period is on campus only.
Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.
Jurisdiction Note
You will now find a jurisdiction coverage note attached to law databases displaying on the dynamic databases pages. This is generated from a field that was originally used for a “Geographical coverage” note but is no longer added to new records for databases pages.
Where they could be identified, I have removed the old fields from the Catalogue so that those that once were geographical notes don’t appear relabelled Jurisdiction. There may still be some lurking around so please let me know if any of your databases pages are suddenly displaying a Jurisdiction label that ought not to be there.
