Student sanctions

Kia ora koutou

Today 22 students have had a sanction placed on their student record for unpaid Library invoices over $100 in value.  They will also receive an email informing them of the sanction and have a sanction block in Horizon record.  Most of these invoices are for Lost books (books not returned).

A sanction results in UC withholding academic transcripts, results, enrolment and graduation.  Results of the recent exams are due out this Friday.  Therefore we may have some very upset students contacting us.

The sanction will be lifted once the debt has been paid and/or the items returned to the Library. Please let us know if you have contact from any of these students and refer any queries onto Jenny, Rā or Te Paea. We need to contact financial services to remove the sanction. We will certainly take personal circumstances into account and waive the debt if this will cause undue hardship.

Quiz teams

I’m keen to organise a couple of teams from UC for the LIANZA quiz on Wed 20 Nov.  It is always a fun night and the quiz hasn’t run for a few years so let’s support this event. The more the merrier – It doesn’t have to be just librarians – partners, family, friends, are most welcome to help make up a team.

I’m told the venue does great pizza, teams can meet for dinner and/or drinks before the quiz or just turn up for the quiz.

Talk to your colleagues and friends and let me know if you are interested and I will enter the teams.

See previous post about the quiz here

DPI tip for October

Digital Detox

Having a digital detox every now and then can be a good way to avoid some DPI symptoms from constantly looking down at your device and possible neck or eye strain and it also can help reduce stress.  Disconnect to reconnect.

Does your phone go wherever you go? Do you get distracted by email notifications long after you’ve left work for the day? Are you gaming or on social media most of the evening?

Discover how to score some balance with some Digital Detox tips from All Right? here

Walking to EPS?

In case you missed this on Intercom…

The walkway between the Ernest Rutherford building and the new Beatrice Tinsley building will be closed from 24 August to 8 September.

You will still be able to walk through Ernest Rutherford building and across the bridge to the Engineering Core. The closure is to allow for asphalt work to take place. Please take care in the area during this time, follow any directional signage and stay outside the fenced off area.
