Social Media competition and Movie Night

Kia ora koutou
There are 2 promotions this week as part of our Orientation programme to be aware of.

1. Where is the Bear? A photo of a cute teddy bear (named Don) located somewhere in one of our libraries is posted on our Library Facebook page each day this week. Each day the bear is in a different location. Anyone who can guess the location is entered into a draw to win a hamper of goodies. The winner will be drawn on Monday 5 March.

2. Movie night and poll. UC Libraries are having a movie night on Thursday 8 March 7:30pm with free popcorn provided. Students can vote for the movie of their choice via our Facebook page or by a tiddly winks poll in Central Library. The movie choices are:

Mean Girls
Boy
Furious 7
Perfect Strangers

Will be interesting to see which movie gets the most votes.

Please encourage students to like our Facebook page if they ask about these 2 promotions.
Thanks, Jenny

IT Help desk hours

IT Help Desk in Central Library is staffed from 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday. The student assistant position which worked evenings and Saturday has not been filled so no help is available at these times yet. I will update you if there is a change to this.
There is also an IT staff member in Kotuku Lab, Dovedale 8-5pm weekdays as well. Please direct people to the Self Service portal to log jobs on evenings and weekends.

Orientation Day – Herea tō waka

Orientation Day is nearly over. This year for the first time the Library had a stall at the InfoHub down in the Undercroft alongside other services. It was very successful and we spoke to 200 students from 9am-2pm, promoting our 3 libraries and services, Facebook and Asklive. Thank-you to everyone who worked on the stall today and to all staff who have been involved in staffing desks or volunteering today in other areas. It has been a very busy week in Central Library with International Orientation and nice to see the library full of students again. The numbers are well up on last year so that is good for all of us at UC.

Subscriber membership update

Kia ora koutou
We are suspending subscriber borrower registration until 5 March, while the customer services team is busy with the start of semester and everything is a bit hectic. There is a note on our webpage about this. We will also take this time to replenish our membership cards. Our students must always come first and our focus must be on them. Our free membership has been very popular so far.

Free UC Library membership for 2018

UC Library is having a trial for 2018 of offering free membership for Canterbury residents. We are removing the charge for subscriber borrowers who wish to join our library.
To join, residents (16 years old and over) must come in with photo ID and proof of Canterbury residency and we fill out an online form. They can then begin borrowing immediately. There is no access to electronic resources or databases.

See our membership webpage for more information.
We were keeping this fairly quiet, but apparently the word has got out now….apologies for not posting sooner.
