On Saturday 19 November and Saturday 26 November EPS Library will open 1-5pm as a place for study and Central Library will be closed. This is due to the planned power outage affecting Central Library on those days.
Puaka-James Hight building will also be used as a space for staff to move to temporarily from other buildings affected by the schedule of power outages during November to January. Please be aware that other staff may be sharing our space for short periods.
You will all have received an email about the power outages with dates, times and buildings affected.
Macmillan Brown Library will hopefully remain open 16-20 January because it has been proposedd to use a generator to keep Te Ao Marama and MB Library open for summer school.
As part of Mental Health Day, I will be leading a walk today from 12-12:30ish over to Ilam Gardens and Ilam Fields. Meet at the Central Library steps at 12:05pm.
It is a lovely day to enjoy the “Connect with Nature” theme and take time out of our day to enjoy and notice our beautiful campus. Hope to enjoy the walk with lots of you.
Some of you will already have spotted people with ropes….
The UC Climbing Club is running a Climb the Library event today from 10am-5pm. Club members will climb from the 5th floor roof to the 11th floor roof on the outside of the building.
Applications are being called for the 2016 Rosalind Patrick Professional Development Award. Please submit your application by 20 October 2016 to Janette Winks using this email address FinanceSharedServices@canterbury.ac.nz
The Rosalind Patrick Professional Development Award was established in 2002, in memory of Rosalind Patrick who was employed in the University of Canterbury Library from 1980 to 2002. An award is given each year to one or more members of UC Library staff, to undertake some form of professional development.
This year we are interested in applications from staff who would like to attend a conference, visit another library, bring a guest speaker to UC, or some other professional development opportunity during the next 12 months. There is likely to be enough funds this year to enable more than one person to receive this award.
Further details and an application form can be found on the HR section of Camelot Wiki.
The Awards will announced and presented at a function on Nov 2, 2016.
Now that Sandra is working as the Projects Co-ordinator, Saharu Shoji has taken on the temporary role as Extended Hours Supervisor in the Customer Services team. This continues to be a shared role with Angela Berry. They manage our casual staff and do a great job of filling our staffing gaps and communicating with the casuals.
Saharu, Sue Lloyd and Angela have all increased their hours to fill the gap left by Sandra.
Tim O’Sullivan is now the person to direct any borrower registration enquiries to during Sandra’s secondment.
I am pleased to announce that Aaron Cumming has been appointed to the Customer Services Team Supervisor role. Aaron will start on Monday 12 September. This is a fixed term role for one year.
Aaron has many years of experience as a team leader in various roles, mainly the telecommunications industry.
I look forward to welcoming Aaron to our team next week.
