From 19 July 2021 Library Access and Collections team (LAC) are responsible for providing the Distance service. The service has moved from the Engagement and Learning Support team after several trials during which LAC staff learned most of the processes involved. Jenny Owens will be the manager responsible for the service.
The process is very similar to the Interloans service which LAC has responsibility for, so there are efficiencies to be gained by having the same team provide both services involving posting and scanning of items.
We have received the following message from Pat Keogh- this could affect any entry doors controlled by card entry.
Over the next 4 – 5 days we are up –grading the Cardax Controllers in the Puaka James Hight Building – this means that during the day doors may unlock for a short period of time.
All systems will be returned to operational at or before 5.00pm each day and all cards will work as usual afterhours. Please pass on this information to other affected users.
The maximum number of doors affected at once is 8
This work is being carried out by Evotek.
The postgraduate and staff Click and Post service will end at the end of Semester 1. This was kept in place after we moved to Covid level 1 to enable those not living in Christchurch to have access to print resources.
From Tuesday 8 June the postal option will be switched off for staff and postgraduates, unless they are registered as distance users.
I’m very pleased to announce that Joanna Frampton has been appointed to the full time Information Resource Assistant role in Library Access and Collections.
Joanna will start work on 21 June and I look forward to welcoming her to the team
You are all invited to a Pink Ribbon morning tea this Friday in PJH staffroom to help raise some money for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. We are taking part in this national event (Pink Ribbon Breakfast) to remember Lyndsay Ainsworth plus many other library staff who have been affected by breast cancer.
Morning tea is provided for free by the Library managers, but we ask that you consider making a donation to our Pink ribbon account which I have set up for the Library. See the links for more information on how to donate.
The 2 websites below were the subject of a Te Rōpū Whakahau webinar I attended yesterday. They contain NZ and Māori statistics from many sources, including Statistics NZ. I really like the display and format, and all data is licensed by creative commons and free to download. An alternative to the Statistics NZ website to direct students to.
Getting enough sleep is an important part of preventing discomfort, pain or injury (DPI). This link from Canterbury District Health Board | Te Poari Hauora ō Waitaha has tips for sleeping well and will describe what sleep hygiene is.
If you have some old bath towels at the back of a cupboard, I would welcome donations for our library disaster carts. Perhaps a reason to have a clear-out at home over the Easter break?
