Meet the Researchers Series – All welcome

The research team have organised a seminar for Tuesday 10th of December at 2pm.  The researchers are both affiliated with the New Zealand Centre for Human-Animal Studies at UC.

Dr Nik Taylor is an internationally recognised critical and public sociologist who has published over 70 articles, books and book chapters. Her research focusses on mechanisms of power and marginalisation expressed in/through human relations with other species.

Emily Major is a PhD. candidate with the New Zealand Centre for Human-Animal Studies.  Emily is researching speciesism and pest control within New Zealand, looking at how ‘pest’ animals are (mis)treated within New Zealand, signalling how this reflects a larger narrative of what (human/non-human) bodies ‘belong’ in New Zealand.

This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the interdisciplinary research by the NZ Centre for Human-Animal Studies.

UC Researcher Series

The Research team have invited two social science researchers to talk to us about their methods and research.

Geoff Ford is a recently completed PhD. student and Postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Political Science and International Relations.  Geoff has used his background in IT to digitise the Hansard debates and talkback radio to understand how people talk about the economy, sustainability and other political implications of everyday language.

Cindy Zeiher is a lecturer in the Department of Human Services & Social Work.  Her writings and publications are in the areas of Lacanian psychoanalysis, politics, science and social theories.  Cindy is also the co-founder and editor, along with Assoc.
