Online Te Reo Māori Course

Kia ora koutou

I’ve signed up for the next round of the Online Te Reo Māori course that’s being offered through UC DevelopMe. It kicks off June 3 and as of now, there’s still 12 seats available.

If anyone else is doing this course, or is thinking about it, I’m planning on setting up a hui once every two weeks  or so (dates and times TBA) where those in the course can meet up, ask each other questions, or just have a bit of dedicated time to work on the material.

If this sounds like something that you’d be interested in, let me know and I’ll send some dates and times around!

Reminder: Fudge Day

Kia ora koutou

Just a reminder that Tuesday 11 July is fudge day!

Aotearoa Bike Challenge

Kia ora

I, along with many others in the library, am participating in the Aotearoa bike challenge this month. I have a bad habit of getting a bit competitive about things, and have found myself in 3rd place overall at UC for points. I’ve biked every day this month, ridden 583km (so far!), but the easiest way of getting points is to have people list you as their encourager.

If you are participating in the challenge (or aren’t yet, but would like to) and could add me as an ecourager it would be much appreciated! There’s instructions on how to do it here: https://www.lovetoride.net/chch/pages/encourager

SciVal Training

Kia ora koutou

We’ve recently got access to SciVal, a research metrics tool. According to Elsevier, SciVal “provides access to the research performance of thousands of research institutions and their associated researchers from 231 nations worldwide—so you can visualize research performance, benchmark relative to peers, develop strategic partnerships, identify and analyze new, emerging research trends, and create uniquely tailored reports.”

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in learning more about, I’m running a workshop!

What: Introduction to SciVal

When: Tuesday August 17, 11-12

Where: Poutama

Marketing Update

Kia ora koutou

It’s been a while!

The main focus right now is on exams. We’re doing our golden ticket promotion again, where we hide a golden ticket in one of the libraries, post a picture on either Facebook or Instagram, and the first student to bring the ticket to the desk gets chocolate! We’re also posting study and wellbeing content on our social media channels.

If there’s anything you think would be worth posting, please feel free to send Kiera Facebook content, Fiona T things for Twitter or Juliet pictures for Instagram.

If you are planning a library event, or there’s something coming up you’d like the Marketing team to promote, please fill out a Marketing Request Form. The more time you can give us the better, especially if you’d like posters or graphics made.

Marketing July Update

What have we been doing?

  • Golden Tickets – As a welcome to Semester 2 we are running an interactive promotion throughout our three Libraries. Clues are posted to our Instagram stories each day about where golden tickets are hidden and when found, these are exchanged at our information desks for a block of chocolate. This promotion is a fun and engaging way to help students navigate library spaces and interact with our Instagram page.
  • Winter Wellness ExpoWe had a library stall over at the Winter Wellness Expo, which was aimed at providing students with information around how we can support them in their studies. This was a great success with a total of 257 visitors engaging with our stall and asking library specific questions.
  • Various Makerspace events, including a really cool Lego Tower building competition
  • The due date for Visualise Your Thesis entries is this week, so we’ve been encouraging students to get any last minute help they need before submitting

Social Media

  • All of our platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) are continuing to see a gradual increase in follower numbers
  • The Research Team is taking a more active role in posting on Twitter, so look forward to seeing some good new content in the coming weeks

Reminders

  • We’re always looking for more social media content, so if you have any ideas/content please email Fiona for Twitter, Kiera for Facebook and Juliet for Instagram
  • If you have something that you want the Marketing Team to promote please remember that we need at least two weeks notice to create promotional materials/get organised/create a marketing plan. You’ll also need to have all the information about the event ready to go, including a description of it, a short tagline we can use for social media, and any images/branding you want included
