Continuing Part-Time Institutional Repository Coordinator Vacancy

Continuing, Part-Time (18.75 hours per week)

Applications are invited for the continuing part-time position of Institutional Repository Coordinator within the University of Canterbury Library. You will have a professional library qualification, a University degree, experience working within a tertiary library, along with experience and skills in information retrieval and information technologies.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working with academic staff, library staff, and research and consultancy staff, to coordinate the submission of content to the UC Research Repository. They will be required to encourage academic staff to submit their content to the repository, check metadata for accuracy, and to ensure content has appropriate copyright clearance, provide workflow administration and troubleshoot problems.

The successful applicant will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work well in a team and as an individual is essential as is self-motivated, flexible, well organised and able to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and accuracy are important attributes.

Fixed Term Library Assistant Vacancy, Collection Services

Fixed Term for 12 months (November 2008 – October 2009)

Applications are invited for a fixed-term, full-time Library Assistant position based in the Collection Services Central Team for 12 months from November 2008 to October 2009. Please note: Current library staff who wish to apply for this vacancy as a secondment will need to provide a letter of support from their manager with their application.

The role of Library Assistant (Collections) is to provide purchasing, cataloguing, processing, digitisation and collection maintenance services for the University Library, and to contribute towards campus-wide Library services. This position is based in Collection Services in the Central Library, but may be required to work on other tasks in other areas of the department or the Library from time to time.

You will have previous experience with automated library systems and some knowledge of library procedures. Ideally you will have some previous cataloguing experience. You will demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be flexible and adaptable. Continuing Shelving Assistant Vacancy, Summer Period Only

Applications are invited for a permanent, part-time Shelving Assistant for the summer period only (November to February). In this role you will be responsible for providing shelving services for the University of Canterbury Library. The position is based in the Central Library, but you may be required to work in other University Library locations from time to time.

You will have previous experience with automated library systems and some knowledge of library procedures. You will demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service, have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, be methodical and have a strong attention to detail.

This is a part-time position of 9 hours per week, and the work schedule is as follows:

Monday 8am – 11am
Wednesday 8am – 11am
Friday 8am – 11am

Fixed Term, Part Time Library Assistant Vacancy, Central

Applications are invited for a fixed term, part time Library Assistant to work for 5 hours per week on a Saturday for 13 weeks over the Summer School Period.

The position is responsible for providing lending and other public services for the University Library. You must be available to work from 15 November 2008 to 21 February 2009. You will have previous experience with automated library systems and some knowledge of library procedures. You will demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be flexible and adaptable.

The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:

Saturday 12:30pm – 5:30pm

State of the Nation Presentations

Two State of the Nation sessions will be presented in the last week of October.

The first session will take place on Wednesday 29th October at 2pm in the Central Library Level 4 Training Room.

The second session will take place on Friday 31st October at 11am in the Central Library Level 4 Training Room.

Chantel Inch, Human Resources Advisor, will be presenting the new UC Policy on Staff Tertiary Study Assistance. If you are thinking of undertaking study next year, that it is important that you attend one of these sessions as changes have been made to the process for 2009.

Anne Scott will also be giving staff an update on the progress of the Central Library One-Desk project, and the changes that will be implemented over the next few months.

All Library staff are invited to attend one of these sessions, but please speak to your supervisor first.
