The University of Canterbury Library is seeking two enthusiastic fixed-term, full-time Library Assistants who will be based in the Macmillan Brown Library, one of the five branch libraries at the University of Canterbury.

The positions are responsible for providing lending and other public services for the University Library. These positions are based primarily in the Macmillan Brown Library and there is an expectation that the successful candidates will be available to work in any of the branch libraries on campus.

Applicants will possess previous experience with automated library systems and procedures, and will demonstrate a commitment to delivering an outstanding service to customers and have a positive attitude towards continuous improvement. Applicants will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be the type of person that thrives in a dynamic environment. An understanding of Mâori and Pacific information needs and services is essential. A familiarity with unpublished resources and the heritage environment would also be an advantage.

The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:

Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm

Vacancy – Fixed Term Assistant Manager, Education Library

Part-Time Library Assistant Manager (22.5 hrs per week, 0.6 FTE)
Fixed Term (June 2010 to Dec 2010).

The University of Canterbury Library is seeking an individual with a professional library qualification, a University degree and experience delivering library information services in an online environment to fill the position of Assistant Manager in the Education Library for a fixed term due to parental leave.

The successful candidate will work with the Education Library Manager coordinating and delivering services to clients, with a focus on working with academic staff to embed library content (quizzes, podcasts, information skills information) in the University’s Learning Management System.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to customer service and continuous improvement and the ability to maintain effective working relationships. They will also have sound planning and organisational skills, and experience working with a Learning Management System such as Moodle.

The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:

Monday 8:00am – 12.30pm (4.5 hours)
Tuesday 12.30m – 5:00pm (4.5 hours)
Wed 4.30pm – 9:00pm (4 .5 hours)
Thursday 8:00am – 12.30pm (4.5 hours)
Friday 8:00am – 12.30pm (4.5 hours)
