We will be playing Wharewhare at 2pm, followed by a couple of waiata and shared kai to close the week. Nau mai tauti mai – please come along, bring some afternoon tea if you can and join in the fun, everyone is welcome!

Wā: 2pm – 3.30pm (Rāmere)

Wāhi: L2 of Puaka James Hight (behind the info desk)

Ngā mihi,

Lisa (on behalf of te rōpū Puna mō Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori)

Māori Research Hui

Kia ora koutou,

There are only two Māori Research Hui dates left for the year. These are:

Thursday 26th September & Thursday 7 November, 12noon-1.30pm, followed by kai.

The list of presenters will be available closer to the time, but if they are anything like the previous hui this year they will be exciting presentations and kōrero from the world of Māori Research.

Everyone is welcome to come along, and if you are feeling a little whakamā/shy, then come along with me 🙂

Ngā mihi,

Lisa.

Mana Reo – staff sessions for Aug/Sept

Kia ora e te whānau Puna,

Over the term break I will be holding Mana Reo sessions in the usual place at the usual time (Te Puna Ako, L4 of Puaka James Hight, 11am-12pm), but with 2 sessions especially for Library Staff.

Monday 26 August – Wharewhare: Come along for some friendly/competitive bingo! All levels of te reo Māori are welcome to participate – don’t by whakamā (shy) as there will be ‘cheat-sheets’ for you to use. There will also be chocolately prizes up for grabs!

Monday 2 September – Using Tī Kōuka to make string/rope. These are skills I learnt from a resourcefulness workshop run by ReKindle at the Arts Centre. In this session we will use cabbage tree leaves to create string/rope, but also some new kupu along the way. Tī Kōuka kindly sourced, prepared and gifted by Jack, and kapu tī/kawhe/pihikete also provided, but please bring along some scissors.

Both sessions are meant to be informal and fun, so nau mai haere mai!

Ngā mihi, Lisa.

Mana Reo ‘Walkshop’ – Library Staff PD session

Kia ora koutou,

This ‘walkshop’ is an introduction to the Ngāi Tahu Tower Trail on the UC Campus, and stories depicted within the tower artworks.

The session involves a walk and kōrero session based around Te Ara Pourewa o Ngāi Tahu – the Ngāi Tahu Tower Trail – and then time in Te Puna Ako connecting to resources that can further understanding of the kōrero discussed. This will all be undertaken in one 2 hour session, where we will discuss kōrero o nehe from Kai Tahu, visual literacies, whakapapa and connect all that up with Te Ara Pourewa o Ngāi Tahu and resources from our library.

There are two session times available:

Monday 1 July 10am

Monday 8 July 10am

Due to the nature of the session there will be a maximum of 6 spaces per session – if you would like to attend a session but are unable to because of the day/time or there are no spaces left, please email me to let me know and I can set up further sessions to suit.

To book please visit http://canterbury.libcal.com/calendar/staff-development

Ngā mihi,

Lisa.

Te Reo Māori / Kapa Haka

Kia ora mai tātou.

I just wanted to share a wee pānui with you about what te reo Māori initiatives are happening on campus this year for staff and students.

Tuesdays 12pm-1pm @ Rehua (Te Moana nui ā Kiwa): Kapahaka for staff and students. This session is for beginners as well so everyone is welcome! For example this week we started learning a simple waiata that the College of Ed uses a lot, as well as the actions to go along with it.

Tuesdays 2pm-3pm @ Aotahi (in the foyer): Café Reo for staff and students. This is lead by Jeanette King and Mary Boyce who are reo experts, a great place to kōrero and  ask pātai about all things reo Māori!

Thursdays 12pm-1pm @ Rehua (108: Community Engagement Hub): Reo Māori café led by Te Hurinui Clarke. This session is great for beginners and practicing what you have learnt in class. Each session will be based on a theme with sentence structures to help you kōrero.

If you are feeling a little whakamā/shy, or want to know more about what is involved, come and have a chat with me.

Kia kaha e hoa mā!

Nā Lisa.
