This session is primarily intended for P card holders but also for any Library staff who would like to learn more about the way that the finance system works here at UC. Together we will work through a newly created online finance induction package, with Janette from Finance present to answer questions and take us through the reasons why our actions have consequences in the Finance systems.
Thanks very much to everyone who donated to the food package that we took over to Student Services. Sara and I dropped it off to Thomas Koruth and here is his feedback.
Kia ora Lyndsay,
Thank you very much for the wonderful surprise in my office! This is very kind and thoughtful from all of you in the Library 🙂
Thomas is going to distribute the items to all the teams at a meeting on the 30th, but we thought it best if the fudge didn’t wait until then so I had another exchange of emails with Thomas!
Here is Thomas’s response about the fudge.
The fudge is making the rounds 🙂 I had to try a piece, it is amazing! Please ask her when she is going to open her fudge shop 🙂
the above Ako Aotearoa staff development workshop will be held in house for Library staff from 9.30 am to 1 pm on Thursday 14 November.
Here is the blurb from our facilitator John Milne:
Library staff are invited to this workshop where you will explore strategies for positive face-to-face and online modes of learning. You will design quality learning experiences using a blended learning framework that aims to enhance learner engagement and achievement.
In the workshop you will discuss, critique and plan. While it is not about the technical side of blended learning please bring a device such as a phone, tablet or laptop for some activities.
John is keen for feedback on what you’d like to see in the session and when booking for the event, you’ll see a link to contact him with comments.
some of our colleagues from Student Services have been having quite a stressful time over the past few weeks. Anne, Helen and I wondered if anyone would like to contribute to a Care Hamper that we could take over to them, just to let them know that we are thinking of them and that we understand what a difficult time they’ve been having?
If you are interested in contributing food or other small care items, please bring them in between now and the end of Wednesday 16th, and on Thursday 17th we will arrange for them to be given to the team. Items can be left on the table in my office.
there have been a few areas of concern coming up around the tearoom e.g. cleanliness, plants, what work falls to whom, security etc. so I’m inviting anyone interested to join a problem solving circle about this. Please let me know by the end of Wednesday 2nd Oct and I will set up a time for us to meet. This will be a circle that includes members from the Finance team as well as Library staff members. It would be good to have at least one member of the Health and Safety team.
I’m looking forward to us identifying all the issues in the current situation then moving into suggestions for what can best be done about them. I’d expect 3 meetings over the next few weeks.
due to sickness and some of us conducting interviews we have the exciting option available to fill two shifts in the Makerspace this afternoon! The 2pm to 3pm and 3pm to 4pm times are both free. Thanks very much to Margaret who is filling in for Sara on the 4pm – 5pm shift.
If you could help please respond in the comments then other people can see if we are OK 🙂
thank you very much to everyone who contributed to Ngā Puna Mātauraka celebration of Te Wiki o Te Reo last week. It was good to see people energised by the activities and exercising their reo in all sorts of ways.
A special thanks goes to the organising group – Lisa, Gabrielle, Fiona T, Nekerangi, Caroline A and Sue T for quickly bringing together the Library’s offerings and for liaising with Office of the AVC Māori.
Hei whakamahara noa i a koutou that we should keep using our reo and extending it further. I’m challenging myself to use more phrases and sentences, not just isolated words!
the Makerspace (Level 2 PJH room 214) will be opening on Monday afternoon at 2pm. At the moment the communications around this have been print based, as I have not completed the web page so that it can be linked to! I’d really like to thank the marketing team for all the work they’ve done so far.
In the K drive at K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Makerspace\2019-Makerspace\Roster-September.xlsx there is a roster for people who will staff the Makerspace and help people who come with their projects etc. A number of you said you might be keen to do an hour and if so, I’d appreciate it if you could sign up 🙂 For the first couple of weeks I’d ideally like 2 staff so that we build each other’s confident with the materials and kit on hand.
Also, I’ll be in the Makerspace for the next 30 minutes if anyone wanted to pop in for a look on your way home.
the advert for the fixed term Makerspace role is loaded onto the UC website. if you know someone who might be interested in this role, please let them know. For internal applicants, we are open to a secondment for the term of this position.
Te Paea was one of the four winners of this year’s Vice-Chancellor General Staff Development awards. She applied for funding to be able to attend the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in August 2019 where she is chairing and organising sessions, giving a paper and then passing on her role as chair of the Indigenous Matters section to a new office holder!
As you know Te Paea had also received support from the Library to attend the congress.
I accepted Te Paea’s award certificate on her behalf this morning and its now in her office awaiting her return 🙂
