Exponential Technologies, Universities, Social Change

Kia ora koutou,

Assoc. Prof Amy Fletcher will be talking to all interested Library staff about the above matters next Wednesday 6 September at 9am in KH08 – in the flat floored teaching spaces of Kirkwood. All Library staff are welcome to attend to give us more background when considering our future directions as a Library aligning with the University goals and to consider implications for the way our students will be learning. Amy is an interesting and engaging member of our academic staff and well worth listening to. After Amy’s presentation there will be discussion time on the implications of her presentation for our work practice. You do not have to register for this, just turn up next Wednesday morning.

Kia ora koutou,

I hope that many of us can be involved with the programme during the visit of the Lincoln University LTL staff on Friday morning. 26 of us enjoyed visiting Lincoln on Monday afternoon, and now we can all return their hospitality. Update re Staff Devt Lincoln University visit

Kia ora koutou,

On the morning of Friday 1 September, Lincoln University Library Teaching and Learning staff will be visiting us as a reciprocal visit after we visit them earlier in the week. Please put this date in your calendars so that you have some time available to assist in hosting our visitors. If anyone would like to help work on the programme for this visit to UC Library, please let me know as soon as possible.

There are still a couple of spaces left for our visit to LU on Monday afternoon 28 August. (Book now on the staff development calendar). We aim to arrive at Lincoln around 1pm, leaving here at 12.30 in UC vans, having already had lunch, and leave Lincoln by 4.30pm to be back at the University at 5pm. The programme will include plenty of time to talk to our counterparts and there will be afternoon tea with cake!

Lyndsay.

Reporting Health and Safety events

Kia ora koutou,

Remember the Health and Safety Toolkit on the intranet? If not, you may want to glance here and remind yourself of its full glory.

Anyway, part of that kete is the method for reporting events. Overall, for the Library we are very good at reporting, but we should be doing better at using the online form (RMSS) rather than the Word document. If we use the RMSS, we get enhanced reporting, ability to analyse and reflect on our incidents, etc. From now on, your H&S team would like to see all events logged using RMSS rather than the form. If this causes issues, please discuss that with a member of the Library H&S team.

OCI and OEI – culture survey

Kia ora koutou,

I hope that you are planning a time this week or next to fill out your response to the Learning Resources OCI/OEI culture survey. For some of us this is a retest as Alex had indicated that we would survey every two years to see if we were progressing towards our desired culture.

I’ve just filled out my survey for the first time and although it took a little time and effort (!), I appreciated the chance to reflect on how we work together and what I’ve learned in the past 5 months or so about the culture that we have here in the Library and more generally at UC.  I think it is worthwhile for us to participate and create data that we can use in future planning and development. I encourage everyone to input your observations and opinions.

Lyndsay.
