Kia ora koutou,
Working from home has given me the opportunity to reflect on the special community I have quickly become a part of working at UC Library. What an exceptionally friendly bunch you all are!
I’ve created a Zoom channel for everyone to use called ‘Kai time’ to stand in for those moments in our day when we come together to shoot the breeze, sip beverages, and (for some on level 5) try not to nod off next to the radiator. If you’re feeling social on your morning or afternoon tea break just pop into the channel and hit the video icon (Meet with Video) or join if a meeting has been started. (This is where it gets a bit experimental, having not used Zoom much myself in previous lockdowns. We’ll see how this goes.)
I’ve set the channel to Private. Rather than signing everyone up and making you change your notification preferences/leave the group, for now let me know if you’d like to be added.
Hope to see you around the virtual Billi tap soon,
Leah
Kia ora koutou,
Digital Services are updating all ‘Search for Full Text’ buttons on relevant databases, to conform with https requirements.
We’ve identified a number of abstracting and indexing databases currently using this button. Please comment below any others you are aware of.

UC Library is now the contact point for all copyright questions, inheriting the role from Information and Records Management.
Our copyright information is published as a subject guide. It can be accessed from the Library homepage navigation panel under Support. A new Copyright guidance tile has also been created on the Support page, replacing the e-Learning Support tile (which linked to Future Learning and Development).

Kia ora colleagues,
Ebook Central will be conducting scheduled maintenance this weekend – Sunday June 27 from 2am to 10am NZST – as it moves from its current server to AWS. This means no access to the platform’s ebooks nor LibCentral.
The maintenance will not affect the look and function of Ebook Central.
Maintenance status updates can be accessed here.

Kia ora,
Summon have released a facet filter, differentiating between physical books and eBooks. This has now been turned on and is available through MultiSearch.
You will see the two new options ‘Physical Book in Library Catalogue’ and ‘eBook Full Text Online’ within the ‘Refine your search’ filter.
Summon have explained that physical books are identified if a) a record is a physical record in the client’s catalogue and is the content type “Book”, or b) a record is a logical record which has a participant record that satisfies the conditions for a), then it will be included in the Physical book facet.
To identify eBooks, if a record is marked as “Full Text Online” and is included in the Book/eBook content type facet filter, then it will be included in the eBook facet.
Please take a look and send any questions or feedback our way.

The Digital Services team have received great feedback about the addition of Te Rua Makerspace to the Library homepage and placement suggestions for the remaining content blocks. We’ve had a little rejig to better represent what our students are looking for. AskLIVE will remain in its current position as this is consistent across the Library’s webpages.
Ngā mihi,
Leah
Kia ora koutou,
An exciting new Te Rua Makerspace content block has been added to the Library homepage. For visual balance a ‘Search our collections’ block has also been created, and old favourite Exam papers has been reinstated.
This change will help promote Te Rua Makerspace‘s excellent resources and creative events.
Ngā mihi,
Leah
