I’m delighted to announce that Nick Scullin has been appointed to the position of Information Literacy Coordinator in the Academic Liaison team. Nick’s first day in the role will be Monday 23rd February. His home base will be in the Education Library.
I am very pleased to advise that a position will soon be advertised for a band 4 Information Literacy Coordinator in the Academic Liaison Team. The position is not yet on the vacancies website but I’m off on leave now for the rest of the year so I wanted to let interested staff know to watch out for it.
The role will be based in the Education Library and will work together with Liaison Librarians from across the whole Library to provide teaching support, manage the day to day delivery and administration of information literacy programmes and provide individual student support. The role will not have subject or academic consultation responsibilities.
Applications will close on Monday 5th January 2015. If you have questions about this new role please contact Aurelia Arona or Coral Black to find out more.
Glen has resigned his position as Information Literacy Coordinator in the Academic Liaison team in order to take up a job as Digital Access Analyst at Lincoln University. He couldn’t resist the opportunity to join Deborah Fitchett to work on “techie stuff” in the Library there.
Glen will finish work at UC at the end of this month.
Catherine has secured a full-time position as Senior Tutor in the School of Health Sciences and so has resigned her casual position in the Academic Liaison Team. Catherine has been a great support to me in particular and a welcome addition to the Academic Liaison team. She helped with withdrawal tasks initially and then more recently was “Woman-Friday” picking up lots or organizing and administrative jobs. Her last day will be tomorrow. We will have an informal morning tea get together to mark the occasion at 10.30am in the Central Library staff room. Everyone is most welcome. Please bring a plate. Catherine’s new job will be based at the College of Education in Waimairi on Dovedale campus so we’ll still see her around and about.
Please congratulate Sue Julian on her new role. Sue has accepted a position at the Upper Riccarton Community and School Library beginning on Monday 21st July.
Sue has worked in various roles at UC Libraries over 24 years. We will be sad to see her go but it helps to know that the students at Riccarton High School will be so well served and we know that they will adore her.
Sue’s last day of work will be next Tuesday 15th July.

I am delighted to announce that Theresa Buller has accepted the full-time position of Law Liaison Librarian in the Academic Liaison Team.
Theresa comes to us from the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre at Christchurch City Libraries where she has been working as an Information Librarian. She has also worked as a Library Assistant here at UC in the Macmillan Brown Library and in the Engineering Library.

Aurelia is the Te Rôpû Whakahau organiser for this event. She has been working with Nekerangi, Caroline, Tania Nutira from Ngai Tahu, and I to plan the day. The purpose of the visit is for members of Te Rôpû Whakahau to come together for professional networking and to learn about the Macmillan Brown Library and what is in the collections.
The programme includes presentations by Nekerangi on the Library’s Mâori resources, and Macmillan Brown Library collection specialists on the heritage collections – Jamie on Art Collections, Caroline on Pacific published collections, Erin on Archives and I will speak about Special collections and rare books.
18 people have registered for the event – including presenters.
Presentations and discussion will take place in the Aotearoa Room reader space followed by a tour.
