How to print in colour from a PC

Copy Centre have given us a stack of handouts to assist students wanting to print in colour from a PC. It also provides advice on the best options depending on which campus the student is on, cost and availability.
Colour printer options are not available on PCs logged into the Lending Desk generic account (which have default settings) so you will not be able to demonstrate on one of these PCs. Hand out the printed instructions instead.

CTA student registration

A reminder that “For registration as a ULANZ or CTA student a mandatory requirement is the supply of your home institution student email address.”
For CPIT students, their email address follows this formula ‘[usercode]@student.cpit.ac.nz.
Most know their usercode, so you can construct their email address from this. If they cannot supply this information, please do NOT complete the registration them until they can give it to you. We currently have a couple of CTA students with insufficient contact details and overdue books. No exceptions for CTA students please.

1 hour loan problem

On Tuesday evening CL staff experienced an unusual problem when trying to issue 1 hour loans. Horizon blocked CKI with a message that it was too close to closing time to allow CKI. The problem started around 5.15 pm and persisted intermittently during the evening. I checked Horizon calendar and it was set up correctly. 3 hour loans continued to issue as normal and no problem this morning.

Branch staff that I have spoken to had no problems last night, but if this does re-occur at any of the libraries could it please be reported to Library IT. Please note which Horizon location you are trying to CKI from and, if you switch locations, whether it resolves the problem.

Loft Assistants over semseter break

ICTS advise that the workroom assistants based in the Loft area out of hours will cease duties on Friday 5 June and will recommence again on Monday 13 July.

During this break the Loft hours are 8:30am until 5pm, Monday through Friday. This is also a time when the Loft workroom consultants may be attending to duties in areas other than the Loft and in this case the Loft office door notice will advise students where to go for assistance.

Advice on when requests are available

If you are asked by a borrower when a requested item will be available, the only true answer is ‘When you receive Hold notification.’

There are so many variants on due dates (if the requested item is out), collection times (Storage, IBDS), time in transit, schedule for changing New Book displays, searching for missing items and processing time for all of the above. If pressed for a date or time of day then make it clear that it can only be a guesstimate.

If you have any reason to believe that fulfilment of a request is unreasonably delayed, take details of the borrower ID and details of the requested item then advise them that you will follow it up and let them know if there is a problem.

Extension of services to all postgraduate students

Library practice has recently been brought into line with a change to the UC policy which outlines the process for accommodating an ‘extension of services’ after the course expiry to allow for various options needed by some student groups.
Previously only PhD students received an extension of 180 days (6 months) to university services such as Library and IT. The change has made all postgraduate students eligible for the 180 days extension.
