Te Reo practice 27 March

Tēnā koutou

Thank you to all those who expressed interest in the Te Reo practice sessions for library staff. These will be fun and informal sessions. For anyone else who is still considering this, you are still able to come along:

Rāmere 27 Māehe (Friday 27 March) 10.00 – 11.00am in PS208 (Pasifika Lali Room, near MB Library)

All welcome!

I’ll try and book sessions at all the libraries across campus throughout the year so we all get to have a good walk across campus at some stage.

So bring along any Te Reo resources that you find useful – remember we are running these sessions ourselves so maybe have a think beforehand about what you would like to work on.

Please let me know if you will be coming,

Kia rongo Kōrero anō au i a koe.

Art Gallery 80’s Quiz

Kia ora koutou

Calling all 80’s experts (aka all you mature folks who were alive and old enough to remember the 1980s).

Christchurch Art Gallery Librarian Tim Jones has asked me to invite you all to come along to their 1980’s quiz on Wednesday 18 March.

They will make up teams of four on the night or you can come along with your own pre-formed team.

See here if you are interested http://christchurchartgallery.org.nz/calendar/detail/1980s-quiz-night/

Te Reo practice sessions for staff

Tēnā koutou katoa

The library managers are very keen to give support to those of you who would like to develop and maintain your skills in Te Reo Māori. Learning Te Reo helps us to support Māori students and staff, to help UC be a good Treaty partner and to treasure this beautiful and unique language of Aotearoa.

Many of you will now have attended courses and learned some Te Reo so we would like to offer sessions for you to practice what you have learned with your colleagues. These sessions will be open to all learners of Te Reo, from those who are proficient to those like myself who are just at the beginning of their journey. They will be informal, casual sessions that are run by the participants. This is recommended for those who have at least some very basic Te Reo skills (formal or self taught) but the only real requirement is a willingness to participate, give it a go and support your colleagues. Ideally we will have a mix of language levels. The sessions will be for one hour per month.

I would like to get an indication of how many people might be interested in participating in these sessions so I can book an appropriate sized venue and time (and chocolate biscuits!).

Please contact me at the following if you’re interested in participating then I will provide session details in another counterculture post.

Canterbury Stories event on Sunday

UC Library will be participating in the Canterbury Stories event at the Airforce Museum, Wigram this Sunday October 12. This is an opportunity for Canterbury people to find out more about their WW1 past, talk to experts and bring in their family treasures to discuss. There is also an opportunity to visit the Canterbury Stories WW1 centenary exhibition.

Erin and I will be participating in the event and are looking forward to chatting with people about their WW1 stories and maybe getting to see some cool treasures. If you have an interest in WW1 history this will be an interesting day and you also can catch the exhibition over the coming months.
