I’m very pleased to announce that Rebecca Taekema has been appointed to the full time Library Assistant role in the Macmillan Brown Library. Rebecca brings considerable library experience, currently working at Upper Riccarton Community Library, and has also worked in customer service roles in galleries and museums.
In a strange little twist of fate, Rebecca is replacing Sue Julian, who left MB to work at Upper Riccarton Library back in July.
Rebecca will start at MB on 15 September, and we will introduce her around the various campus libraries.
By now many of you may have noticed the beautiful new sculpture hanging from the ceiling of Level 2/3 Puaka – James Hight. If not – look up!
‘Energy Device’ (1995) is a large sculpture, its main components are two branches of European beech joined in a twisted copper cone filled with wax. Artist Andrew Drummond is one of New Zealand’s most important senior artists and was Senior Lecturer in sculpture at the Ilam School of Fine Arts from 1992 – 2003.
The sculpture was donated by ANZ bank and has made an interesting challenge for Jamie, our Art Curator, to transport from its former home in Blenheim and reassemble here at UC.

I would just like to clarify the hours for the Macmillan Brown Library Assistant position currently advertised (Vacancy no. 2317) is a full time position at 37.5 hours. The job description incorrectly stated 30 hours.
