Open Journal Systems (OJS) records

Since early 2015 we have included Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal records in Multisearch and the Catalogue.  We have access to over 7,000 journals and many of these are open access.  Some, however, require a subscription or have embargoes on the latest issues.
Unfortunately the Public Knowlege Project which has developed OJS has not been able to provide separate lists for the titles which are fully open access and the titles which are restricted.  And they are now unable to provide any updates.   As a result of this ProQuest/Ex Libris (formerly Serials Solutions) have informed us that they will no longer be maintaining the records.  This means that we will need to make any changes such as updating urls ourselves and we will no longer receive records for new OJS journals.

LAC’s intention is to continue to maintain the existing OJS records but we will monitor user queries and access issues and if it becomes problematic we may need to review this decision.

We are interested in any comments about the OJS journals and if it is worthwhile continuing to provide access to them.

New database: Materials Science & Engineering

ProQuest have advised us that Earthquake Engineering Abstracts will be replaced by a new resource: Materials Science & Engineering Database.

The new database has 3200+ full text ebook and ejournal titles and includes  trade and industry journals, technical reports, conference proceedings and government publications.  The content is available now.  Individual titles can be accessed through the A-Z list and we will receive catalogue records  in mid December or January.

We continue to have access to Earthquake Engineering Abstracts but this will be discontinued at the end of the year.

Annual Reviews – additional titles

At the October meeting of the Information Resources Working Group an upgrade to the Annual Reviews subscription was approved.

This year we have subscribed to a 37 title collection. For the next subscription period we will have access to 44 titles.

The additional titles are:
Annual Review of Animal Biosciences
Annual Review of Linguistics
Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior
Annual Review of Statistics and Its Application
Annual Review of Virology
Annual Review of Vision Science

The titles are available now through the journal A-Z  search page.  Records will be added to the Catalogue in mid November.

A new title: Annual Review of Cancer Biology   will also be included in the collection next year.

New database: Education Source

As part of this year’s database renewal process EBSCO has offered us a gratis upgrade from Education Research Complete to Education Source .   This gives us access to an additional 679 journal titles.

Education Source  is available now and can be accessed through the database pages and the Catalogue.   Records for the  journals will be added in mid October.

A list of the additional titles in Education Source is available here

Database change: House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (U.K.)

The House of Commons Parliamentary Papers database which was a Chadwyck Healey product has  moved to the ProQuest platform and has been renamed as: ProQuest U.K. Parliamentary Papers.   The new URL is http://parlipapers.proquest.com/parlipapers   The old Chadwyck Healey site will no longer be available at the end of this month.

We have updated the title and the URL in our database record.
