LEARN Upgrade Information Sessions

For those that may not be aware, LEARN is going to be upgraded on the 10th of November. This will involve a change of appearance and navigation. The courses themselves, the content, activities and resources are not changing.

For those that might be dealing with students after the change or you may just want to understand what will be different, I am holding two, 30 minute information sessions for Library staff at the following times:

  • Thu 10 Oct 3:30pm in Poutama, Central Library
  • Wed 16 Oct 11:30am in Poutama, Central Library

For those that are keen, ELS may also require additional support to attend and demonstrate the changes at departmental level meetings. This will depend on how many requests we receive for this service. So, if you are interested in potentially presenting, please come along and/or get in touch with me.

If you can’t make any of these times but still want to know more I am happy to show you in person. Alternatively, you can access our development site by logging in to learnuat.canterbury.ac.nz or look at the overview video on the front page of LEARN.

Learn Maintenance Outage: Sunday, December 16th

LEARN will be unavailable on Sunday, December 16th between the hours of 9am – 5pm. We hope all that time won’t be required but it might. This is in order to perform planned maintenance work. For those that be interested it is an update from Moodle 3.4 to Moodle 3.5, which is a fairly minor change.

While it is unavailable students will not be able to log in to access resources, complete or submit any assignments, quizzes, workshops, etc. A confirmation message will appear on LEARN when the work has been done.

Hopefully this will only impact a small number of students.

Cheers, Richard

New e-Learning Support team member

This week the e-Learning Support team welcomes a new member to the team, Brian Hainsworth, who has taken up the position of Education Technology Consultant, replacing Gregor Ronald.

He comes most recently from working for the Yoobee School of Design, based at the Dovedale campus, so hasn’t moved too far but is looking forward to working in the UC environment.

If you haven’t met him already feel free to come say hi and welcome him to the Library family.
