Slow opening/saving of files

Kia ora koutou

We are currently experiencing problems with opening/saving files on all network drives (possibly also affecting Outlook mailbox loading).  We think this is probably related to a fault with the SONAS file storage system IT identified yesterday and were meant to be getting fixed today.  An assyst job has been logged but no information has come out yet.

Best to avoid logging off or trying to save files if you can.

Sad news RE Rosie Sykes

Kia ora koutou

Rosie Sykes passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning (20th January).  Her mother was with her and she went peacefully.
I like to think the earthquake we felt that evening was a chariot of angels come to spirit her away.

Rosie’s funeral will be held at 1pm on Wednesday 24th January at John Rhind’s Christchurch chapel – see https://johnrhind.co.nz/contact/ for location details.

Please pass on the details to any people you know who won’t see this counterculture post.

Libguides css change

Kia ora koutou

To update LibGuides to more closely match the new library website we have made a css change.  This has made some elements of guides look a bit strange.  We’re working our way through doing fixes (unfortunately we don’t have a test site to preview the changes on) – if you notice something that needs urgent fixing please contact Romy/e-services and we will either fix or do a rollback of the changes.

Lost manilla folder

Kia ora koutou

This is a bit of a long shot as I have no idea when I lost this this year…but has anyone seen a black manilla folder with a gold skull pattern on it?  It contains my notes on Minisis (our archives management system).  I suspect I may have left it in MB somewhere for one of our Minisis meetings.  Any help would be appreciated.

Rosie’s Birthday afternoon tea

Hi all

We’d like to have a small pre-birthday afternoon tea for Rosie on this Friday the 16th at 3:00pm in the Central library staffroom.  Bring a plate to share if you would like (savory is what Rosie likes best).  If you would like to contribute to Sandra’s birthday hamper for Rosie (keep it small or temporary as she only has a wee room at St Helena’s Rest home) please give your gift to Sandra or deposit it  in Sandra’s locker on Level 2 (ask staff if you’re not sure – the key is in the door).

Hopefully Rosie will be well enough to make it on the day – I will update this post if she is not (we will deliver the hamper to her if she can’t make it in).

Kind Regards,

Romy

Feedback on the TELSIG forum

Firstly, I’d like to re-iterate Theresa’s post and thank all the UC library staff volunteers who helped us out with running the TELSIG forum (presenting, driving, ushering, moving furniture, AV support, wrapping gifts, assisting speakers…the list goes on), including those of you who did our real jobs for us while we ran around in extreme-organization mode, our managers (who gave us time, advice, and support for all our planning), and those of you who let us take over your library space with all our equipment.
We couldn’t have done it without your help and are extremely grateful.

To those of you who came to the forum – we hope you all enjoyed yourself.  We’d love to hear your feedback.  Please complete this short (promise!) survey –  to let us know what you thought and to help TELSIG evaluate the forum and plan for future events.

Thanks again!

New Library Course Booking System now live

Hi all

We have just gone live with the Library’s new course booking application – LibCal.  The “Book a Library Course” links on the library homepage have now been replaced with links going to the new booking homepage and booking site.  If anyone finds their way to the old site they’ll see a message directing them to the new one.

LibCal functions a bit differently from the old system (e.g. students will need to sign up with their UC email address and will no longer be able to log in to see the workshops they have booked in to) but is hopefully still intuitive and user-friendly.

To match our wording on the site we are now using the word “workshop” instead of “course” or “tutorial” to avoid confusion with UC courses/tutorials.

As we are still a few weeks away from peak booking season it would be great to get some staff feedback on the new system in case we can make any further improvements – please email feedback to me (romy.forrer@canterbury.ac.nz)

Thanks to everyone who has helped us get LibCal up and running 🙂

Romy

P.S.  I am still in the process of updating links to course booking in the wiki and subject guides, if you come across any links that need updating please let me know.
