Edu building – update

Kia ora koutou,

for those of you who may be wondering, the Education library is still in the stages of being repaired. Our scaffolding should be coming down this Friday 24th and repairs continuing on upstairs throughout next week.

Students and staff have been absolutely brilliant about navigating the space so far but we are looking forward to having everything back to normal!

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!

Te wiki o te reo Māori

Kia ora koutou,

It’s that exciting time of year again for Māori Language Week – Te wiki o te reo Māori. This year’s theme is Te Reo Tautoko – behind you all the way.  Due to the week falling during term break, the University will be running a two week programme starting from Rāhina/Monday 4th  Rāmere/Friday 15th Hōngongoi/July.

Joanna Condon is our sponsor for this year and we will be aiming to get a team together soon as possible to start planning the library’s activities.

If you wanted to participate in supporting Te wiki this year, please check with your Manager and email ra.steer@canterbury.ac.nz

Education Collection Location update

Kia ora koutou,

All the material on open shelves at the Education Library will be relocated.

The Library of Congress collection, i.e. material on level 2 of the Education Library will be relocated to Central Library. This material will be interfiled into the current collection. This means it will be shelved alongside other material from the same subject area. This material will be held on floors 11-5 of Central Library. The current provisional date for the move of this material is December 2016.

The Dewey collection, i.e. material on level 1 of the Education Library will also be relocated to Central Library. This material will be kept as a discrete collection. This means it will be shelved in a specially designated space on floor 4 of Central Library. The current provisional date for the move of this material is July 2017.

Material such as AV, Kits and DVDs, Readers, School Journals, Māori Collection will be moved as part of the Dewey collection move.

Ngā mihi,

Rā Steer (on behalf of the EDU Relocation Project group).

Education Relocation update

Kia ora koutou,

as part of on going work around supporting staff and students on the Dovedale campus to provide transitional services whilst the Education library relocates, a Transitional Change Plan was put together.

More details around this can be found here K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Education-Library-move-2016\Reporting under PCG-Transition-Plan-2016-03v2

Are there kittens to study with?

Well not quite but in an upcoming Facebook post the University page will be running the message

“UC is trialling a new Feline Study Buddy programme! Students visiting the University of Canterbury Library will be able to choose from a catalogue of 24 cats and kittens to keep them company while they study. For more information, visit _______”.

Which will then inform them it is in fact an April fools joke! Its a light hearted collaboration between the Library and UC’s social media accounts that will run for 1 – 2 days so if you do get any inquiries please let the students know that unfortunately it was a joke and that whilst they might love a kitten to study with, they aren’t available at this stage.

Thanks,

Ra Steer

Education Library Move – Update from Project Group

Kia ora koutou,

In order to support the College of Education staff and students while they remain on the Dovedale campus during Semester One 2017 and minimise the disruption for students and staff using the Central Library on the Ilam campus there will be two moves to relocate the Education library collection to the Central Library.

December 2016

  • The Library of Congress material located on the second floor of the Education library will be moved to Central Library in Dec 2016, to be interfiled into Central’s collection in December and January.

July 2017

  • Distance Services will remain at Education Library until mid-semester break in July 2017.
  • The Classroom Collection located downstairs on level one, as well as High Demand will remain at Education Library until  the mid-semester break in July 2017 when it will be moved to level 4 of Central Library.  This move is expected to align with the College move to Ilam.

Further details on the services available at the Education Library in Semester One 2017 will be available at a later stage.  Access to the Education Library of Congress material will still be available through the usual request mode.
